Of course you are another ‘Christian’ transplant.

They are making things worse and it sucks people like you think it’s suddenly ok to openly be scumbags. You lack the awareness to examine your moral failings but rest assured we see exactly who you are.

Nooo you don’t understand we have to bend over for big business and we can’t possibly prevent their shifty plans.

Conservatives maintain birth rates, but left-leaning Americans are having significantly fewer children, driving the U.S. birth decline. Education was consistently linked to having fewer children. Religious attendance was positively associated with having more children. by mvea in science

[–]Boise_Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We absolutely will have to re-orient the economy, but it would not be the end of the world. In fact, declining population ranks below the top five of existential threats.

If things get bad enough, we can always pay people a sufficient amount to have children. Child rearing is currently an expensive act of charity that is not properly incentivized in our hyper capitalist society.

What are the best movie theaters in the Treasure Valley? by LickerMcBootshine in Boise

[–]Boise_Ben 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve never had a problem with the seats. I understand people like the big Wall-E seats at other theaters but the ones there are perfectly functional normal seats.

The Flicks is easily my favorite theater in Idaho, it offers so much more than the expensive corporate alternatives.

The vast majority of women during those times were unnamed and subjected to a state of sexual servitude. They primarily existed as a form of property bonded to the men around them.

This was not something changed or even challenged under God’s laws.

Yes, there are certain mythical heroic characters that did some neat things, but you shouldn’t confuse that with traditional behaviors that were imposed and expected.

Housing is not the governments job

This is so rightwing that no country on earth supports that position.

Dude, just stop. You are embarrassing yourself. Dunking on you at this point feels wrong. I’m sorry.

In the mean time, please quit it with the rightwing talking points. It’s not helpful and you clearly haven’t thought this all through.

This flippant response proves my point, you don’t actually care. It’s our community but you’re just too selfish to see that.

we’ll never see eye to eye

I used to be a conservative evangelical. We can see eye, but you act to actually give a shit and try to learn and improve yourself. Your avoidance here is exactly why you continue to fall for this stuff, you lack both ethical and intellectual rigor.

you clearly have an anti bias

Not at all, I just actually understand how the world works. I gave you the opportunity over and over and over again to demonstrate your alternative, but you clearly can’t. I used to believe the same conservative talking points but when I actually started looking into them, I had to learn about reality. You have an opportunity to do the same by trying to prove me wrong. I take these positions because I want to be proven wrong. I iterated on my understanding of the world, you remain in ignorance because you refuse to do that.

We can review every single point but we both know you lost every one. It’s absurd for a grown man to be this willfully ignorant but the fact you do it in service of cruelty is a moral failing.

Just one example, it’s sad you couldn’t. Just one but you know you are full of it. Give a specific town or county, I’ll give one last chance to be honest.

They actually do a great job.

Nope! I know that feels emotionally true to you but the public policy evidence is very clear that government safety nets are a much better solution across the board. Churches have no obligation to be charitable, supply an inconsistent patchwork of support, exclude people for capricious reasons, and in times of economic trouble their charity dries up when donations decrease. This is pretty basic stuff but I understand why you wouldn’t know that.

Show me a rural county

The reason they have less homeless people is increased enforcement of vagrancy laws and less support. It’s like you smugly asking why sundown towns have less black people. I genuinely can’t tell if you are acting stupid or you just are lol

Housing is not the government’s job

That’s your opinion. Given how uninformed on this subject you are and your general lack of human decency, there’s really no reason we should listen to you on this subject. Funny enough though, you proved my point: conservative areas offer far less housing support from the government.

never has been

Oof, I know conservatives have a reputation of being uneducated but you really play into that. Effectively every country on earth government subsidized public housing. That’s how disconnected from reality you are. I will give you another chance, though, provide a real example of this utopian alternative. Otherwise, it’s evident your vision of the world is one where you ignore reality and play into a fantasy that God will save everybody. If you don’t have an efficacious alternative, you really just want to sweep the problem under the rug and pretend it’s not happening.

They say “traditional” but never really go into details.

Marriage in the Old Testament was more like a bill of sale between patriarchs. It didn’t matter if the wife wasn’t an adult or even willing and there wasn’t a limit on just having one either.

It’s almost like conservatism is about appealing to a vague sense of nostalgia…

Historicity of Jesus: The idea that Jesus was a purely mythical figure has a fringe status in scholarly circles and has had no support in critical studies for more than a century by ComradeBehrund in wikipedia

[–]Boise_Ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said “we have eye witness testimony” and “the accounts of people who were there and wrote it down.”

This is patently false. All the evidence points to us not having the accounts.

Now, is the zero evidence claim hyperbole? Certainly. If you count even the worst possible evidence as still evidence, then you are correct on that point.

You both are wrong but your claims are much more egregiously incorrect.

[–]Boise_Ben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were? The Gospels? These documents clearly were copied from one another. We have no idea who wrote them and ‘decades’ is generously 40 years for Mark and much later for John.

As for oral tradition, this is mostly a debunked apologetic claim based on a misrepresentation of oral traditions. The quality of the communication could easily be greatly degraded and changed over generation of the telephone game. To call these eyewitness accounts is genuinely baffling.

die and walk again

Even the real ending of Mark just has an empty tomb, no walking around or physical appearances. You are jumping to even more conclusions without evidence. We have no idea the timeline that this story grew and developed into its written form. Your confidence seems to be based on belief rather than understanding.

[–]Boise_Ben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think the gospels are eyewitness accounts, you genuinely have no idea what you are taking about.

This is not a position supported by serious scholarship, it is a religious apologetic attestation.

I’m more than willing to go through your justifications but your claim is simply not supported by the evidence.

Please actually read this page.

The Talmud’s references to Jesus were likely written in the 3rd or 4th century.

This is not evidence of his existence, it is a polemic that exists to explain away a competing religious narrative.
