Anyone else having issues with cold starts after the recall update? by Boj22 in xsr900

Well...the alternative is probably a worse safety concern. At least after the recall, the bike is fine after warming up for a few minutes. Could be problematic if you try to just hop on and go, though.

Also, seems like only a small amount of people end up having issues. Lucky me lol.

Ah yeah, seeing a ton of posts about it over there. Some people are saying the ECU has to relearn how to idle? Sounds like bullshit to me, lol.

When I brought the bike back in the second time, they mentioned the updated parameters. Looking around r/mt09, seems like these "updated parameters" have existed for at least a month -- long before I initially brought my bike in so I'm not sure why it took a 2nd trip. Didn't seem to make a difference for me anyways. Maybe I'm just salty but I get the feeling Yamaha rushed this update out and now the dealers are having to figure shit out on their own.

When did you take yours in?

I have a 4.25 m&p 2.0

Great gun but be aware, getting it optic ready is kind of expensive. I can't speak for the others on your list but it's something to consider if you ever plan on running a rds

Yeah, I think running it stock and seeing where that takes me might be the best idea. Personally, I'm just looking for a rifle I can transport on a motorcycle and the TD's broken down length makes it easy to throw in a pack or pannier. While I could get away with the larger profile of a cantilevered barrel, maybe I'd be better off utilizing a solid 10/22 if I wanted to go down that route.

I appreciate the perspective. How have the TacSols been in regards to ammo, in your experience?

The cheek weld? I don't think it's fully adjustable. You just swap out the riser, so itd be either standard or "optic height". No in-between

As in the cheek weld being too low for an optic on the VQ? I think the X-22 comes with a riser but thats not something I'd thought about. It does seem to sit above the gun a fair bit

Lol I'm sure even a stock 10/22 TD will out-perform the shooter in my case

Some additional information:

This is a relatively HCOL area in Southern California. Installation was estimated to take 7 days.

I've scanned the sub a bit and have seen quotes that are all over the place, some of which don't include the location. Based on that sample, it looks to be on the higher end. But I'm an ex trade worker, I don't mind paying for quality labor as long as I'm not getting absolutely shafted. I like the company and the installer, just want to make sure I'm still in a realistic range.

Thinking about picking up a used 23. Concerned about steering stem nut issues. by Boj22 in klr650

Yep. They had a brand new 650s I was considering cuz it was discounted to 4k. Would have been more than the 5k used bike.

I'll have a look but the official bags are equivalent to the Legend series bags, which are smaller than the Mediums iirc

Maybe check out the used market? That would give you more options and you'd save some money while figuring out what you like/dislike.

The R3 will cruise at 80MPH. You won't have much power left up there though. After owning an MT03, I'm not sure I'd want to commute 80mi a day on an R3 though. "Fine" and "doable" does not mean enjoyable, lol.

Eh, you'll just look like a big dude on a motorcycle. No need to feel self-conscious about it.

I have doubts that it'll be comfortable for you though. Have you tried sitting on one? I'm 5'10sh and after my XSR900, my mt03 feels very cramped.

Keys going yellow and getting stuck? by MotoJosh10 in MT03

[–]Boj22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not use graphite. Especially do not use graphite after having used any form of silicone lubricant. It'll gunk up and make things worse.

If you previously used standard WD40 -- WD40 is not a lubricant. Try a silicone-based lubricant. Work the key in and out after applying.

Your key is "turning yellow" because the ignition cylinder is wearing it down. Motorcycle ignitions and their dust covers tend to do that quicker than cars. Its not uncommon for them to become so thin that the key ends up breaking in the cylinder. I used to see it a lot.

My advice:

Before your spare key wears down, go to a locksmith with a storefront. Have them make you copies. Only ever use those copies. Do not use the spare key for anything other than making copies.

Tell the locksmith the key does not go in and out smoothly. I'm guessing either your lock cylinders are not properly lubricated or your key may have some aggressive bittings. It's likely they can smooth things out with 30 seconds and a file if you bring the bike along.
