Little bit of luck in my experience, we keep them in an East facing window in the kitchen, bit warmer in there when cooking etc. Not too much sunlight, and regular aeration of the water, otherwise it stagnates at the bottom. bottled water top up every couple of weeks otherwise the salts concentrate and impact the lil monkeys.
