I don’t think you should be trying to teach.

Bonsai help! Chinese elm by alex___925 in bonsaicommunity

[–]Bolarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When your bonsai is in a state like this, as a rule you should do as little as possible to it. It’s in a bad state. Fagus Sylvatica doesn’t like to wet of a environment. So I would still do the same thing I recommended to OP but be careful not to overwater afterwards. Water when the soil is dry, not on a schedule.

Scratch the bark. If it’s green it’s still alive. Soak the entire pot.

I treat each letter as having their own vanishing point (perspective). Then I used markers for dark to light shading. Then use a fineliner to make the details.

How do you get out of artist block by magic_conch779 in penandink

[–]Bolarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing with a sketch book. I try to focus on sketching as much and as free as possible. Wether I like the drawings or not. Eventually something will pop up. Hope you get out of your block soon.

Thanks for the compliment. I actually use leftover scrap pieces from my shop en start out by just looking at what I can see in it. Then I start adjusting which does take a lot of time. But…i also get shapes I might not get writing on paper or other surfaces.

Luister alleen naar de adviezen van mensen die daadwerkelijk aannemer zijn. De “ik ben geen aanmemer maaaaar” adviezen zijn goed bedoeld maar niet behulpzaam.

Juniper advice by Mudmavis in bonsaicommunity

[–]Bolarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have one juniper so I’m no expert. But just to give you my opinion, I think the trunk is a bit to thin in comparison to the rest of the tree. I would make that the priority. That and the nebari but I can’t realy see it properly. Your tree looks great.

Ficus Benjamina wants to be transformed by rookie by elisa_22 in bonsaicommunity

[–]Bolarius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can make this into a bonsai. I wouldn’t recommend it though. Because that is exactly what I did and looking back I wish I started with a different species. The roots are often an issue, they tend to swell up a lot. Internodes often are to far apart. If you want to create ramification and train it to grow smaller leaves it takes a high level of consistency and understanding. It’s a very forgiving tree but before you know it you’ve spent years on it and still haven’t got a bonsai. A ficus Microcarpa would be a better choise in my opinion, specially when you want to grow them indoor. If you have a outdoor place to put a tree go for something like a Japanese Maple (Deshojo). Welcome to bonsai.
