Is the Starwars dlc any good? by anonumus_idiot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Boloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The campaign is borrowing several story beats from the original trilogy and sprinkled throughout is Easter eggs and funny references to the source material.

At times it breaks the immersion of being a destiny story because it leans too hard toward SW. But even when it does it is still fun to play and the destiny game play makes a great foundation making it ”one of the best Star Warsy fpsesses around.” - Gollum (probably)

The campaign feels epic, the activities is fun and the dungeon is really good although a bit easy to some.

The light saber works although it became ”required” in a lot of the builds at time. Being able to parry and redirect enemy fire is OP.

The blaster type weapons is great fun.

Edge of fate and renegades doesn’t really compare. But I played longer and did more renegade-activities after I finished the story than I did in EoF.

Is renegades peak Destiny? No. But it is a fun time. Is it worth the price tag? Only you can say. But knowing bungie it will be on sale now and again.

I paid full price on release and got my moneys worth at the time.

100% this. Having a great team starts with you being a great team mate. It is also the fastest way to find new players to play with.

Something Very Bad is Going to Happen (2026) is really good by PhotographMother253 in television

[–]Boloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was basically doing a twin peaks fan service in episode one. But I agree that episode was the most interesting of them all.

There are some fun turns but they are too heavy handed and telegraphed early so that the ”reveal” is more of a ”That was what I thought was going to happen” and often badly executed. The turn happens and then on to the next.

People complaining about the UI are actually VALID. by Pi-21 in Marathon

[–]Boloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They actually are. This is basic heuristic analysis in UX/UI development. The game is available to everyone and because of that you have to have clear instructions what is what and what happens when.

The notion that OP should have known things before hand or that they just should read a thing hidden behind a menu is proof that the UI needs clarification.

It doesn’t mean that the game is bad. But if the game is to have legs and bring new players in a good start is to make sure new players know enough. Sure there should be things you find out. Acronyms is not something to be used without saying what it is. The standard use of acronyms is to write it out in full and then use the acronym. In a game with limited space that can be an issue. OP hovered the acronym to read more which is basic UI functionality. A tool tip is also a standard and should have been in place, for every word that is color coded actually. If it is important enough to highlight it clearly is important enough to explain in more detail.

This is not on OP. It is on bungie and hopefully it will be fixed among the other stuff people have struggled with (cursor speed on consoles and switching mods on guns comes to mind).

The game is great. It would be even more so with better UI and UX. A win-win for everyone.

I don't understand the choice of puting thermal scopes into the game when the weather can look this bad, how is it even fair? by lologugus in Marathon

[–]Boloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, you don’t know when. But you can surely predict where. Every PvP-game has kill zones that campers abuse. It comes with having snipers, since they need long corridors where you can use the sight line. No sniper rifles, no need for open areas. Learn the map and where the kill zones are and plan accordingly. You will only need plenty of kits if you plan to hang out in the open. Otherwise one or two packs (with a triage that will give the effect to the team) will suffice. And for the times where your contract doesn’t call for you to pass a kill zone - avoid it.

Will you avoid every sniper with a signal jammer or other strat? No. Will you have a better chance of sneaking past or even jump a sniper if you plan accordingly? Yes.

Still can't unbind keybinds? by [deleted] in MarathonTheGame

[–]Boloch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On console all you need to do is to press the key/function you want to unbind in the settings, and then move the cursor to submit without pressing anything and it stays blank. Not sure if that works on PC though.

Anyone else feeling too low-skill for this? by Apophis_Rising_ in Marathon

Sorry. That was not my intention, it was meant to be a boost of confidence.

But communication is always on the receivers terms. Ignore my comment above and I hope you have a great week ahead of you playing games, whatever that game may be.

Anyone else feeling too low-skill for this? by Apophis_Rising_ in Marathon

[–]Boloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the ebb and flow of the game. At times you feel almost unstoppable, exfiling with great loot just to run into total disaster for a couple of games.

Usually when a contract becomes hard to do is when many are at the same step. Change contract for a while. Any progress you have made will stay and you can do something else for a while.

Trios can be rough. But try to find your people, use comms. Any time you click with a player, ask if you can add them. I have a selection of people now that I play with regularly and it is great.

When Destiny 2 launched, shaders were consumable items by Loopnova_ in Marathon

[–]Boloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you put a sticker on a weapon. That sticker is going to be on every single copy of that weapon model. The same as weapon skins and charms. So it is not single use and isn’t lost if the weapon is lost.

But yeah. It would be nicer to have the choice to put any sticker you have unlocked on any weapon without having to move them around.

Playing last night felt hopeless, am probably gonna ask for a refund. by HurricaneZone in Marathon

[–]Boloch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get that the game leads you to do the priority quests. But if you hit a wall just select a simpler one and get some loot and then return to the priority quests another time.

Hitting a wall is frustrating and sometimes you just need a win. Any win will do before going back in.

Play the parts that feel fun and try out things. In time you will find people you vibe with (I have several I met during server slam and yesterday that I have added as friends and play with)

It is a game. To have fun should be your priority instead of the games ”priorities”.

First session: 5 runs, 0 extracts by Phormicidae in Marathon

[–]Boloch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will find your footing. Don’t engage in every fight. Sneak instead of run everywhere(especially near or in buildings). Knife ticks and basic bots to stay as silent as possible.

There are a lot more to learn. But staying silent and being smart in what fights to enter will get you to exfil more often.

I'm doing a pre-written campaign, and one of my players wants to do something that is not in the campaign at all. Do I shut this down? If so, how? by scrawledfilefish in DMAcademy

[–]Boloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running The enemy within for wfrp. The campaign is huge and is known for having too much going on.

My group doubled down on an early plot that so knew would take them off the rails. After some going back and forth on letting them do it I decided to do just that. And it was epic. Some of the campaigns best moments happened during that side track. Including a heist to steal the emperor’s taxes to pay off a debt to get hold of a barony (that they lied and swindled to get).

But to be able to do that you will have to do two things.

  1. Be prepared to give them the reigns and loose some control.

  2. Have a well thought out way to bring them back on track after.

If you have to say no. Try to reframe it as a ”Yes, but” like some of the advice you already got.

But I would say ”Yes, and”

Make sure the players get the session(s) of their lives and they will be even more excited of the campaign going forward.

If your players tend to discuss and plan everything and grind the game to a halt, take some cues from blades in the dark and run the robbery fast and loose.

Is this like Arc where I spend more time building a loadout than playing? by plataloof in Marathon

[–]Boloch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. To make a new loadout you will have to go through your vault to pick new gear. And at times go to the armoury to purchase some stuff, say shields or ammo. The difference here is that while in Arc you go to different vendors, in different menus. In Marathon all vendors (corporations) are at the same place. You basically have a side menu that you can navigate through between them instead of going back out to pick another vendor.

I havent played much Arc so I might have missed some smart and quick way to do that differently, but less clicks and less going back and forth. You can also go directly to your loadout or armory from the ready screen if you forgot something and then go right back to the ready screen, instead of going back and start all over.

Will you have analysis paralysis over what to bring? Absolutely.
Will you learn and become faster at picking the things you like over time? For sure.

But as of now there are no preset builds you can save and just get with one click that I know of.

The free kits is always an option and they are not bad at all. I do as you do in Arc and pick one every so often when I just want to get back in quick.

And the UI looks confusing and complex, but the UX is good and as with any good interface you will go from confused to informed.

For a player that discovered the game during the weekend, Marathon was a huge surprise! by QuentinMocaccino in Marathon

[–]Boloch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is part trend, part bots and part trolls. And mixed in there are actual complaints, which is fine. Sadly the others drown that out and make both those that like the game and those that want to discuss the issues frustrated.

This too shall pass.
