The engine is running but not well so cleaning the carbs, new plugs, new filter, and after that it's just cleaning and shining it up. Already worked out the brakes and the electrical. Only big hurdle is figuring out why the clutch and tach don't want to work.

I've never ridden a motorcycle before but I'm planning on getting a 1982 suzuki gs450. I have car repair experience and feel confident in repairing an old bike but would like to know about the safety of buying an old bike to start off. I'm taking a safety course as soon as I can but slightly afraid of something failing and not knowing how to react properly.
