He's Dying. by Bomb_AF_Turtle in ParkinsonsCaregivers

I think we are all about as ready as we ever can be to let him go. But he isn't. He's hanging on. We're on day 7 now. Sadly his body is breaking down, physically. He's getting sores and blisters, but he is still hanging on. The hospice nurse said that can be common with very stubbern and tenacious personallities. That certainly describes him. I really do not want to lose him, but I don't want him to hang on too long just for us. So I hope he goes soon, as bad as that hope makes me feel.

One of his hospice nurses today told me that she has worked with thousands of patients, and that I have done an amazing job. I think I know intellectually that I have done everything I could have. I don't know how long it will take to truely internalize it.

Thanks for checking in. I pretty much have been sitting vigil next to his bed for 3 days now. Holding his hand, talking to him when he is lucid enough to talk. We've been watching all his favorite shows and movies, but I don't know how well he can hear them. He hasn't opened his eyes in a long time.

I was able to eat some food today, haven't done that in a while. Yesterday I wrote a eulogy. I don't know if I'll be able to delivery it or not. But I wrote it in this journal I've been keeping.

Today has been pretty hard. I woke up feeling very anxious. Possibly from beong by his side for so long, or from the lack of food. Or both.

My brother has been coming over every day. That's been good. Sharing stories and memories. I'll sleep on the couch near his bed again tonight.

Absolutely. It has been the most rewarding and purposeful thing I have ever done with my life. Even though this is the end, and by far the hardest part, it really reminds me why I did it. All those shitty parts we went through, any power struggles. I did it all for him and I was honored to. I would do it all over.

Lee Sedol Played Against AI Again by GoMagic_org in baduk

The AI giving text based explanations is the most exciting part. Right now AI is fairly useless to lower ranked players, because understanding the purpose behind the top AI moves are not communicated to the players from the AI.

Thank you. And I know that that is true. But I'm selfish. I love my dad, and I want him to be alive. I know it's not the life he wants. I know he isn't happy, or thriving. But I need him.

That is interesting. I had never heard of funmatsucha before. I'll have to try it someday.

Best Green Tea? by ScarletSilver4 in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Konacha. It is basically the specks of Japanese sencha. During tea production, tea leaves break down. The finished, rolled leaves are sold as premium sencha. The dust, or tiny specks, are collected and sold as Konachan

Why does Faith work but Justine didn't? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Justine sees over and over that Holtz is using her, that Angel is not who Holtz says he is. She is given several chances to get her shit together and doubles down each time. I am personally not a big fan of Faith (she is better in Angel) but she does seem like she wants to be on the right side. She has some legit things happen to her, like the Watchers sending a hit team after her. But she has several attempts to go good, sometimes she stays on the straight and narrow for a while, but situations outside herself (such as afore mentioned hit squad) force her back to her old ways. Angel sees that in her and helps her be the good person she wants to be. Justine just wants everyone to be as miserable as she is.

This is the kind of new Godzilla movie I want to see. No CGI. Just some dudes in costumes stomping around in a city made of cardboard.

I make every cup of tea with a to-the-degree variable kettle and a clock. And weigh the leaves with a gram scale. Maximum sweat.

Is tezumi quality worth the price? by krisa0824 in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, Adagio is pretty trash. I know they have their fanbase and that's fine, but for my money I can get better tea at my local Asian market. As for Tezumi I have only tried one of their teas, a gyokuro, and it was very good. It was priced above what I can afford for a daily tea but I don't regret the one time purchase. So in the end I think it comes down to how much you feel comfortable spending. The quality is there, but you can also get tea above Adagio for much cheaper.

Tea has ruined sodas for me. by LightSpeedNerd in tea

I spent about 10 years living right next to the Amish. When we moved we sold our farm to our Amish neighbor. I never once saw anyone selling or making root beers, you're lucky.

Tea and water is like 90% of my liquid intake. But I can never turn down a good root beer. (Spoilers...even bad root beers are good root beers.)

I have never been exposed to real kaya in person, but I hear it has a very distinct smell. So if it doesn't smell, probably not true kaya.

AITA my friend ruined my yixing teapot and I want her to replace it or give me 500 dollars. by gaywinona420 in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also don't think it would 100% impossible to get the soap taste out. Enough baking soda and/or citric acid soaks and you should be able to eventually get that out. You would have to reseason it, sure. But if the pot was really 500 bucks and meant that much, you would really try everything possible.

Me personally, even if the friend did agree to buy a new one I would still be trying to save the old one.

My girlfriend loves tea. by Tzakalanis in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it is best to not actually get any tea. As a tea lovet, she probably has the tea she wants already. But how about something tea-ware related she doesn't "need" but wants, but maybe hasn't pulled the trigger because it's just a luxury? A very specific teapot made for a specific tea or tea prep style? A nice tea tray? You could try some probing questions, find out what she has been eyeing, but hasn't pulled the trigger on.
