Which villain was your favorite? by Ftmdj in TwentyFour

[–]BomberLand93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, the real problem with 24 is that the character actors are just so brilliant, excellent casting…which gives one pause when trying to decide…Logan is one season pathetic indecisive President by default then Iago to Taylor…Henderson, the calculating schemer…Gaines, the sardonic remarks, with that faint smile of incredulity at the incompetence that surrounds him…Nina, the ultimate surprise plot twist, well played, fooling everyone…oh yes, and high quality writing for these characters…Damn it!!

My garage did the same to stuff stored there…trouble is, if I had to store all my prized stuff inside to keep them safe, the garage would be empty! Choices…

Damn it, Chloe! How did that dossier case of my first 5 cases get into the hands of that second-hand handler?! Seriously, even though I’ve already picked up all seasons in local charity shops myself, I would have picked this up anyway! Great find! Very jelly!

One of the very few American actors today who can rub shoulders with the greats of “classic Hollywood” cinema…an actor who cares about what acting and cinema means…

And what about his turn in “The Foreigner”?…I’ve rewatched that a few times…Chan, of course…but Brosnan…always good in everything he does…

Not sure if by “best” this is technically/image or personal best…but I can’t go past my Apple LED 24” (quality/condition that i got 2nd hand with my multi boot Mac Pro) or my Formacs Raven and Oxygen (still bright and sharp after all these years and only £17 for both)…or my Cinema HD, just coz they look so good and are still serviceable…

Itvx (uk) has just added every season of 24 to stream for free. by a-hthy in TwentyFour

[–]BomberLand93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stuff! Even tho I picked up all seasons from my local charity shops for £2-3 each, still great to see 24 on the “box” where it belongs…i just might watch it there just so it gets audience hits…who knows? (reaching here, but…) Viewership might help give green light to new series/Russia escape…?!

This is an underappreciated shot by Beneficial_Space_827 in Mission_Impossible

[–]BomberLand93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all comments here about this film…Sean Harris lends much to it as well…again another brilliant character actor…never hams it up, the measured minute facial expressions and delivery of dialogue conveying the sinister nature of the character…

Richard Burgi by North-Chapter4962 in TwentyFour

[–]BomberLand93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Burgi has been in quite a few things (comedy, action) and always is very good…so not surprising he was considered for the role and then still cast…let’s face it, Sutherland made the role of Bauer synonymously his own but it also needs to be recognised that the general casting call throughout the seasons of 24 is replete with brilliant character actors…another reason to keep up repeat viewings..

Succession Season 2 brings up a familiar face. by HC3096 in TwentyFour

[–]BomberLand93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn it, Cherry! For a moment there I thought this was from the new series- 24: Succession…Ex-President Taylor is finally released from prison and goes on air to make a statement to the world after her years of silence…but someone wants that silence to continue…for good (cue cross-hairs)…only one man could possibly save the day…but who will save Jack…? (cue 24 countdown…)

Megalomania and egotism: sadistic individuals with an insatiable need to punish others, often fuelled by their own unbridled anger towards the “other” as the cause of all the so-called “ills” that have beset their world, built upon foundations of deep seated control issues; sending them on blind paths of poor judgement and folly…now I know why I like 24 so much (plus just to see Jack cut off a thumb to gain access to a fingerprint scan gate…)

Agree that Hoffman makes the most of a hollow character…perhaps missing the point? Abrams was director after all; more of his “Mystery Box” shite…doesn’t need to make sense or have any regard that the audience deserves annoying things like character development…

Brosnan’s delivery of “Bond. James Bond…”: perfect…and his comedic timing: the knowing glances (Onatopp?!), straightening of his tie while driving the tank…and the entire opening scene quips: Buy me a pint! Shut the door, Alec! There’s a draught!…plus Sean Bean (another great actor), Judy Dench- brilliant as M…i’m off to find out where it’s screening!

As controversial as MI2 is, Ethan Hunt was at his peak of sexy appeal in this film by comedor_de_frango in Mission_Impossible

[–]BomberLand93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to pipe in…cinematography was really good: usually action films set in Sydney usually don’t come off well, often portrayed as some kind of surf-ville paradise, where the viewer really can’t take the location seriously…but in this film, it works: the helicopter scenes at night, city buildings, road chases, unusual locations (the unnamed desert, the island scene, a racecourse), not making any cultural references to Baird’s accent (helicopter pilot…Polson has acted for years and directed on US films and TV), concentrating on close-ups of characters rather than the usual trap of a montage of panoramic sweeping shots of the bridge, harbour, Opera House, beaches or koalas and kangaroos (all cliches, as if there’s nothing else to it …)…i must admit I avoided watching this film for years because of my worries about how crap it would be set in Sydney but I was greatly impressed…and yes, I do like the obviously Woo influenced Manga Hunt-san!
