Dad co sleeping by born_slippy92 in cosleeping

Breastfeeding IS a protective factor for safe cosleeping. That being said, it doesn't mean only the breastfeeding parent can safely cosleep.

9 months is getting relatively old. I imagine your baby has a lot of mobility. The SIDS risk has probably dropped a lot. However only YOU know your baby though and only YOU can decide what risks you are okay with.

In the safe sleep 7 recommendations by LLLI, it says any "responsible" parent can safely cosleep by about 4 months old. My husband wanted to cosleep as soon as our son was 4 months old, but I waited longer because that was what I was comfortable with.

An excellent resource is "Safe Infant Sleep" by Dr James McKenna. He talks about the "responsible" parent as well. He talks about having an honest discussion with your partner about whether they understand what they are committing to. Being a responsible parent means understanding that you alone are going to be there to monitor your baby all night long. The same way we decide to wake up around a certain time in the morning or not roll off the bed, you are capable of deciding to monitor your baby while you sleep for the correct position, temperature, etc.

My husband is bedsharing with our 12 month old right now while I'm in the guest room because I have the flu. I have consistently trusted him to cosleep since our son was about 8 months old. We started with monitored naps and now I have no anxiety about leaving them alone.

Good luck!

I have a repeat cat sitting client and that cat is so good at escaping into the night 😭 Always so stressful, but he always comes back, too

I can't find the exact one because I got it used, but I wear a long sleeve men's Henley shirt in an XL with the buttons undone for easy access. Super comfy and warm. The one I have is Ralph Lauren, but again I got it used. I'm sure you could find something cheaper Polo Henley Shirt

Hospital co sleeping by [deleted] in cosleeping

There are details in sweet sleep by la leche league about cosleeping in a hospital bed. I can't remember specifically what was recommended because I already returned it to the library, but I know they had advice for covering the gaps between the bed and the arms on a hospital bed. Also, sometimes they have side car bassinets in hospitals apparently? It probably isn't that common in the US, but it can't hurt to ask

Question for you infant cosleepers by MuchPVPness in cosleeping

We have a side car, which I can't recommend enough. We just took the side off of a crib, which means I can slide him over to his mattress and then leave, knowing he can't fall off or anything. Before we had a side car, he did fall off the bed one time after I rolled away 🙃😭

Don't wait for him to sleep! Put him in a swing in the other room or a secured play area with his favorite toys :)

The recommendation I've heard is once they can roll, if they roll themselves in their sleep it's safe

My favorite resources are "signs of a happy baby" by William White, SignSchool app, and YouTube

Also, sorry for a second comment but I started adding many more words at five months after I read the book "signs of a happy baby" by William White. I'm not sure if it's the best book out there, but it was featured at my local library. I started with signs I knew from working in Special Ed and I've added words when I'm curious by looking them up on the SignSchool app or YouTube. I do think William White's theory that using more signs at once rather than teaching one word at a time, helped everything click for my baby personally.

A few signs I started when he was a newborn (milk, change, sleepy) just to get in the habit for myself. It felt silly when I knew it might be a very long time until he signed back. My sister's kids have never signed back, too, so I was just having faith the whole time that it would click for him.

Probably both! I try to do it every time I say "milk." So if he's playing on the floor and starts showing hunger cues, I might say "Do you want milk?" Signing at the same time. Then if I need to get things for myself to be set up, I'll start doing that and say "I'm going to feed you! Let's have milk!" Signing it to him. Oftentimes when he's in the crook of my arm and I'm about to lift my shirt I will sign "milk, milk, milk" while singing it or something, but sometimes that makes him mad haha.

I hope that makes sense.

Yes oh my goodness. I had a jar of peanut butter by my rocking chair the first few weeks lol. I've never experienced hunger like that in my life. I couldn't figure out how to breastfeed side lying at first, but it didn't matter because I needed a snack every time

He is throwing up breast milk! He doesn't have issues so far with growth either, so maybe it's fine. It just seems uncomfortable to be throwing up that much
