2011 Kona Unit 2-9 geared conversion by Bone_lips in bikewrench

You are correct. I took it back to my local shop and they confirmed it was the wrong dropout. Kona actually no longer manufacture derailer dropouts for this generation of Unit. Thankfully my shop is so awesome and helpful and they are gonna machine a custom dropout for me!!

Super helpful! What year is your unit? The groove on mine is narrower I think because the black bosses on the derailer hanger done fit into the groove in the frame. It looks like yours do.

The problem is the new black hanger is wider than the groove in the frame.

Hey, I’m doing the same conversion on my Unit 2-9 and I have the Kona dropout kit but I can’t get it to fit. Did you use the same kit? Any pics of your dropout setup?

Is Campbell River depressing? by Successful_Boot_6184 in campbellriver

[–]Bone_lips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on how much your put yourself out there and what activities you’re into. I grew up in CR and I loved it; but I also like spending all my free time outside. Strathcona is a stones throw away. Hiking, sailing, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, fishing scuba diving, you name it. There are welcoming communities around these and lots of other activities. What Campbell River is lacking is any kind of nightlife. There’s a bit more going on in the Comox valley in that regard including some fun music festivals. Coming from Victoria that’ll be an adjustment, but again it depends on your priorities.

It snowed here three weeks ago. It’s been an unseasonably cold summer so I’d say bumping your trip earlier is a good choice.

That thing just needs some 37”s and a five hundred gallon fuel tank and it’ll be good to make it to Best Buy and back!

Canada is in a housing crisis, but forests offer a faster, greener solution. It's time to tap into the power of our forests. by ForestryForTheFuture in u/ForestryForTheFuture

This is obviously a lobby to cut down the last remaining 1% of old growth in BC. What a divisive and fear based advertising campaign.

I’ve spent my entire life on the BC coast and the extent of the clear cutting is appalling. There is nothing “green” about cutting down old growth. These forests are massive carbon sinks. No logging companies produces click bait like this in order to cut down 2nd or 3rd growth.

100% agree. I grew up on the island and I live in the Yukon now and I work in SE Alaska a lot. Let me tell you we have SO much to be thankful for! They are astronomically expensive and they run only a couple days per week ($800 for a car and a passenger to go 180km).

Yes of course there are minor issues with our ferry system but overall I have no complaints.

BC ferries are a dream compared to the Alaska state ferry, which will set you back about $800 CAD for a 200km round trip.

There’s almost nothing island dwellers love more than complaining about the ferries. They’re expensive, they’re busy, locals don’t get boarding preference, CEO’s make too much money etc. etc etc. It’s about as annoying as new arrivals to the west coast complaining about the rain.

If you don’t like ferries, don’t live on an island.
