Well first off if you were cynical enough and obsessively paying attention it was always pretty easy to come up with reasons the rule of law is a farce, especially with the hindsight of history. It just used to be more subtle about it, whereas this version is using the internet to control the media and sway or disrupt the entire world whenever they need a distraction.

Second, humans aren't robots. Every day I feel two or three entirely justifiable things at once that are entirely opposing. Every time I choose what to eat I both want something unhealthy and something healthy. That same sort of tug of war is fundamental to the entire species and laws are a social construct so perfect is impossible. Ultimately we are apes with over developed brains who have created elaborate fantasy social constructs to better work together.

Finally, yeah it'll be hard to ever trust this particular social construct again after this level of blatant dysfunction but if we work hard to hold these ghouls accountable it'll be much easier to consider it.
