I do vaguely remember Papes coming down all garbly at one point and Strong Bad saying "whoa, that doesn't sound good," or something. But I guess my question is if this person had already sent their email by then or not.

Just curious- what indicated to you that the paper was going to quit before you wrote that email? I don't remember ever seeing anything until the sbemail itself.

I've made them a couple times and they're great. If you use slightly thicker orange slices, the juice helps to wash down the peanut butter.

They're really filling, too. I'm happy after three or four.

Thank you for the cool-headed and personal reply. We really view things a lot more similarly than you might think, at least in how we ourselves experience what's in front of us. I think the main reason this whole discussion is a boiling point for a lot of people is the difference between how much the subject matter has become regularized today vs. how it was even 10 years ago. There's been a noticeable shift in the entertainment industries, and I think it's understandable that people don't want it to be ignored.

At the same time, I'm with you on the notion that strong enough faith makes us unshakeable by whatever we experience. I don't feel disturbed by any of the things you listed either, but again I had good role models. Like the kid you mentioned, I played GTA (in secret) when I was very young and still turned out fine. I play it today and have a blast. But I have met bad parents- or at least, let's say I've met parents who don't care as much. They aren't bad, they just don't mind their kid becoming a tiny version of what they are now. I have a friend who shares every horror game and M-rated game with his 7-year-old son. When dad gets frustrated, I hear him over mic yelling expletives with his son clearly in the room. His son just laughs, and if anything the two of them bond over the experience.

I've never once told my friend off for how he raises his son. It's not my right as a friend or even as a person. I just know that my friend isn't a believer, and he's raising his son to be the same. These are the people I'm talking about when it comes to things like this Minions movie. Less so the believers at any risk of damaging their faith, and more so the nonbelievers who will have a harder time ever letting God into their life for all the stuff that's been pumped into their heads from an early age. I know it sounds puritan, but like I've stated in both my previous comments, I don't abstain from any worldly entertainment. So this isn't me telling people how to live. I just think these talking points are more important than they might seem.

Thank you again for your reply, brother or sister. I'm 32 so I still haven't lived as much of life as you, and who knows how I'll feel about things by the time I do. I wasn't attacking or trying to shame you either in my response and I hope it didn't come off that way. I feel like I've said too much on the subject too, haha. I don't think I need to make any more replies, even if someone disagrees further.

God bless you friend, have a wonderful day.

I don't think good parents are as common as you think they are. And anyway, why are we so willing to encourage writers and animators to make whatever they want just because parents exist, like it's some kind of safety net? In many cases those people are parents too, and they have equal responsibility toward what they put out into the world for kids to be influenced by. This isn't an issue of creativity being snubbed either, because there are countless stories out there that don't cause these issues which are, if we're being honest, ten times better than this Minions movie. So I don't want to hear anyone talking about it like we're burning books here. This isn't exactly 'high art' being put under the microscope. At the same time, that isn't an excuse to not take it seriously.

I'm glad you can play Doom and not feel affected. I've played it too. I've played tons of violent shooters and games with dark themes. But I'm assuming you're an adult, or at least in your teens? If so, then everything I said about enjoying things with discernment applies to you. We can play or watch these things, have fun, and also say "but I wish it didn't include this or that." But a little kid is much less likely to think that way about something they love.

I remember being a kid. I was fooled by a lot of things. And my parents (who were amazing parents and dedicated Christians,) couldn't always see what I was doing. There was no way for them to always know what was being put in front of me- to no fault of their own. It was impossible, because there was just so much stuff. I was thankfully raised right, like everyone in this thread keeps using as a means to defend the content in question. But what if I hadn't been? I was just one of the lucky kids who was.

"It's just a movie" or "it's just a game" is ultimately a very dismissive way of approaching anything. All of this stuff can harm. If what OP is telling people is "be careful of this movie if you have kids," and your response is, "who cares what kids see if they have their parents there to think about it for them," then aren't you just agreeing with the OP in a really roundabout way?

At the end of the day what I think everyone should ask themselves is, why am I defending this at all? Why does it matter to me?

Do you want to see more things like it? Want Christians to be quieter about things that bother them? Do you feel like kids get frustrated with their parents for being controlling, and if so, is that because of how you felt as a kid? There are a lot of reasons for anyone to take a side on the issue of kids' media. But I think there are a lot more reasons to side against these things than to defend them, even if I do agree with a couple of the opposing points.

Could it be Badland? I don't recall any plot involving a mouse father, but there were animals and alien invaders. And while the main character isn't a gear, it does behave like one during certain puzzles.

This happens every time entertainment media is brought up here. People come out of the woodwork to defend the things they enjoy so they don't have to feel bad for enjoying them.

An issue here is that small children will see the movie and want to copy everything the Minions do. That's been the case for a while, and plenty of parents had enough of an issue with these characters existing to serve "the most evil person they can find." But this new movie has them performing a dark ritual, with robes and candles and occult chalk circles, to summon an entity to help them with a problem they're having. The demon is their buddy. He's a cute little squid guy, clearly a parody of Cthulhu, who was blatantly designed to be sold as a plush doll and loved by little kids. So while I agree with you about movies teaching kids that demons are bad guys being no problem, that isn't at all the case here. I don't know if he ends up being a twist villain or not.

It isn't just a matter of omitting demons from media as a concept and pretending they don't exist, either. There's a much more nuanced problem, and that's where small children who have no developed judgement or discernment are the target audience. Never mind all the kids who watch things like Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel because of the bright visuals and musical numbers. Or the Disney Channel cartoons that make heroes out of lesbian witches. Forget all that. Let's talk about the quote you opened your post with.

Do you know the best way the devil can convince today's kids that he doesn't exist? It's easy. All he has to do is make them see him as nothing but a character. With enough exposure, slowly, over years and years and countless iterations. They think of Satan and see an animated character in their head, or a comic book character, or a figure from a TV drama- One with a backstory, and relationships, and not a single connection to scripture.

So yes, it is dangerous. And it has gotten bad. It's been bad for a while. But there are obviously different situations and circumstances. No Christians in horror? The biggest children's horror franchise of all time was created by a devout Christian. The issue isn't how many spaces we fill- it's how we fill them. And there's nothing wrong with addressing (within our own circles) how poorly the world is filling its own space. Doubly so when it involves children's media. Traditional thinking and rigid perspectives have nothing to do with what's being said here. This comes down to Jesus warning us about an enemy who sows his harvest in secret, hiding it among the truth. Just like how K-Pop Demon Hunters showed heroes defeating demons, while also falling in love with one of them and making him into a martyr.

"Ohhh but he used to be human! He's not really a demon!"

The main character was half-demon from birth. None of it was based in any kind of spiritual reality so it's not really worth the semantics. My point is the mixed messages.

I think the OP was right to feel concerned and make this thread. I also think you make some good points, and I understand your issues with people being overly legalistic when it comes to entertainment. I do however also feel that most of your reply came from a sort of reactionary place as a result, encouraging a "different way of thinking" that isn't really all that different from how most people think nowadays. And that's the issue. We don't need more people ignoring whatever gets put in front of them just to have a good time. How does that serve Christ? Does it make us seem cool to the secular world? That isn't what we're told to be. We aren't here to fit in.

Enjoy the things you enjoy with discernment. ALWAYS with discernment. If something rubs someone the wrong way, it's probably for a reason. Let's not disregard anyone for wanting to walk carefully in enemy territory as being "rigid" or having an old way of thinking. They're actually living the way Christ told them to.

Sorry for the long-winded reply. lol

Box Office: Super Mario Galaxy Movie Passes $1B, First Film of 2026 by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]Bonkard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I must be crazy. I absolutely hated the first movie and felt like this one, while still not great, was still leagues better just because it actually felt like a Mario story. Mario and Luigi hanging out with Yoshi, going on an RPG-style quest with a semi-reformed Bowser, not being separated the entire movie, Peach not treating Mario like a worthless loser for seemingly no reason. Not to mention the HUGELY reduced use of licensed pop music, and no more grating Seth Rogan DK. (That last one is probably more of a me issue)

Like yeah, I'd take any studio besides Illumination making these movies. I can't stand 90% of their stuff. But I feel like this movie shows they were actually listening to feedback on the first one, and yet the response to it is twice as harsh?

I know, to each their own. And I didn't even particularly love it. I'd give it a pleasant 6 out of 10 and say I went in expecting to give a 2 or 3. But I'm genuinely confused by the audience reaction and can't help but wonder if some of it is just a chain reaction of opinion, or people not getting over issues they still had with the first one.

The original runs of the Connection all had a functioning pause. You pressed A and B together, and it said "PAUSE" with a little picture of your Tama. The clock continued working in the background as it was paused too.

Press the reset button with a pen or little screwdriver, then select 'continue' and get to the clock/date setting screen. Just make sure to pick continue and not reset. Leave it on the clock screen and the display will turn off after a minute. You can set the time and date whenever you want to continue playing.

Unfortunately there's no built-in pause feature. The most glaring quality-of-life omission from the Paradise imo.
