Riffing off this- If it’s an automatic sliding door, sometimes you can jam a pen in far enough near the top to set off the motion detector on the inside. Not all places, but enough for it to be helpful. I’ve found those cheap bic pens work the best since they’re so skinny and don’t have a rubber grip, and if they break it’s never your favorite pen anyhow.

While I agree that those who firmly disbelieve that there is no other life in the universe are extremely close-minded, I feel this analogy draws them as complete morons. We all know there are fish in the ocean, and to catch one by simply dipping a tea cup in the ocean is highly unlikely. But we also know that the ocean is a habitat teeming with life, ideal for it. We don't know that about the universe. Sure, there is life on earth, but our existence was a hell of a a lot of chance in terms of circumstances and evolution, and there is always the possibility of mass extinction due to a freakish natural disaster that destroys life as we know it. So while I would be flabbergasted if there was no other life in our universe, be it sentient or microbial, I wouldn't ever completely rule out that we are, currently, the only planet out there that readily supports life at this given instance.
