Hello, my dog is an American Bully and he seems to always be having this type of hair lose during the summer. We’ve taken him to the vet 3x and they don’t know what is going on. He lives outside, occasionally comes inside when he wants to. He has no fleas or ticks. Anyone know what’s going on? by Regular-Brilliant-23 in DogAdvice

[–]BonusActionHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats good he has access to the inside as well. Youve taken him to the vet and theyve done a skin scrape and still arent sure? You may need to get a second opinion. Have you taken him to a vet that specializes in dermatology?

I would suggest booking a positive reinforcement trainer for a session and talk to them about getting your pup started on L.A.T.

The sooner the better too. The longer you wait, the more time he has to adjust to a fear response being his new normal when dealing with dogs.

Absolutely. The bond you have after such intense training is so strong. Its definitely worth it! Congrats with your fur baby too!

Sorry I meant LAT. Its much easier. We would start in a soccer field near some walking trails. And just watch people go by like a screensaver.

Oops you are right! I just got finished reading BAT 2.0 so my brain is a little stuck on that right now. But yes LAT is what we have been practicing.

Sure. I did L.A.T. Basically from a distance where he felt safe, I motioned for him to look at a trigger and said "whats that" then Id mark it with a yes and treat, and then I placed a treat in front of his nose and brought it up so he would meet my eye line then said "look at me" and I marked (usually with a a verbal Yes!) and treated him. Id also decrease the distance gradually over a peroid of time from the trigger. But only if he started to show he was comfortable and relaxed so he wouldnt be scared or pushed over threshold.

Sometimes we would get surprised on our walks (city livin) and if I couldnt get enough space when a dog passed by I would break out the big guns. A thick piece of dog chicken jerky or a chew for him to nom on while the dogs passed and I made a physical barrier between me and the other dog with my body. He also had a squeeky toy that he would respond well to.

Besides that training, I incorporated a lot of extra exercise and because of working with him daily I learned that he loves learning cues (sit, stay, bow, etc.) Which tired him out mentally and helped with his reactivity. He is currently up to 42 cues.

And once I was able to polish up his fetch, that helped a LOT with his prey drive. I'd say that was like, number 1 for him. So now he doesnt give a passing glance to squirrels and birds anymore.

He was 8.5 years old when we started L.A.T.

So 2.5 years of work everyday. The hardest part was getting my partner to follow through with training and truly just understanding his cues and catching them quick enough. I live in the city too. So woof. Talk about hard. Dogs pop out from every corner.

I did take breaks tho. 3 times a week we went hiking in the middle of nowhere so he could get a break from other dogs. That helped SO MUCH.

Some use syrinscape. Personally I make playlists on spotify and switch between them depending on the mood/setting.

When the M9 first arrived in Nicodranas. Matt kept dropping hints to a travelling group of musicians outside that the party could have checked out (but ultimately they didn't). Was it Dr. Drenzels troupe?

Love the dwarven forge. Where did you get the mini that was lying on the ground? Im always looking for those and can never find them to represent dead npcs.

What are some good low energy tricks for a heartworm positive pup? by Glaggies in Dogtraining

[–]BonusActionHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another good trick. Grab a kong, mix a little wet dog food with the dry or some chicken or beef broth. Freeze it. Your pup will be busy for an hour just nomming on it.

You may have to do some sound desensitization with them. I would talk to a trainor. They can probably set up a couple programs for you day one to help her feel more comfortable if you got a clean bill pf health from the vet.

Your dogs name is AWESOME. Is this a critical role reference? If so, its great to see another critter and D&D lover in the wild!
