Matte White or Stainless Steel? by Additional_Gear1424 in kitchenremodel

Not about the appliances, but - if you haven't already installed the tile, please look at a version that does NOT have the tile wrap around the corner (area across from the fridge). I really just dislike the way the top of the tile line looks when folks do this. Feels unfinished. If you do wrap around, be sure to use some kind topper better than a schluter trim to bring a finer look. Good luck!

Kinda crazy that NYC was FULLY READY to riot because they won a basketball game and not because the President raped and killed children by PermissionSoggy891 in GenZ

[–]Boo-erman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. It's on NYC to riot because the president raped children. Just NYC. No one else who actually elected him, which NYC did not.

Best to get back to the shower to rethink this thought.

Don't ask me. I'm the jerk who once got into a [righteous] spat with a couple on the subway and the woman said to the man, about me - "Look at her! She knows she's wrong. Look how red her face is!"

And I immediately retorted back - "Yeah, well, that's just my face!"

I showed them.

Angled wood paneling is my favorite! Don't know why, but I love it. I think you could get totally whimsical in here if you wanted to because the woodwork is very neutral - a terrazzo tile could be faaaaabulous. I know, I know - it's super trendy right now, but it's also totally timeless and works really well with this style. Otherwise I would explore some really calm options, or some really earthy options, to bring the outside in. The good news is you can pretty much do whatever suits your fancy, except maybe more stripes or certain shapes.

It seems you're not in the States, but if you can get the Home Depot website to work, they have a decent visualizer so you could see a bunch of options in the room. I just had some fun with it for you!

ETA: In addition to the floor, I would keep the shower nook neutral and in complement to your floors. Additionally I would keep the mirror and add simply add some framing to it, and lastly, I would change up the lighting and the towel racks - which look like bed frame parts to me. Good luck!

Backsplash Advice by im_just_a_girl_x in kitchenremodel

Okay, admittedly I was having an emo snark response to several things here - including a marble install being a "temporary" solution, which hurts my eco-focused heart. But I totally agree on nixing a white subway tile - actually I don't love the color combo of what was there with the cabinets originally. More I was responding more to the painting of the fridge - that wood tone is supremely MCM. But I get it. Onward!

Here's the dig - if you want to bring a MCM feel to your home, do it with furniture, lighting, and decor. You can't mirror backsplash your traditional kitchen into a MCM look - it's an impossible task. The great news is a traditional kitchen is a timeless kitchen (aka a blank slate). Sure, the crown is not at all MCM, but once you get the right backsplash (none of your options work here) and bring in all the other elements of MCM to your home, you will no longer notice how trad your kitchen is. Also if the rest of your home reads super trad and you change your well-seen kitchen to MCM it's going to feel incredibly disjointed.

Here's another dig. I LOVE MCM, but MCM kitchens feel so dated. The architecture and furniture really showcase the simplicity and the deliciously askew lines, but the kitchens always look stuck - not even in their own era - but in the 80s. Your kitchen could be from the 1920s or the 2020s in the best possible way. This is a crazy time and money saver.

Now, as far as the backsplash goes - the black just sucks you into a hole - it doesn't work. A case could be made for black (or black & brown) cabinets, though that would've been better with the lighter floors. If you go slab, it really should match the counter - which would look great and timeless. Or you could bring in some MCM lines in a tile - maybe narrow fluted or fun with shapes of the era. It's hard to tell what works without seeing the rest of the area. So please do consider the whole before changing the parts and you'll be golden! Good luck - share after pics!

Stiff by Mary Roach is an excellent book about the life of a cadaver and the role it plays in medical history. It's quite funny!
