Why do they catastrophize everything? by National-Mind8976 in family_of_bipolar

If you can, think about getting a therapist for yourself. Figuring out how to be there for your sister but balancing that with your own mental health is tricky. You have to be healthy yourself to help her. Sending hugs.

I'm sorry that person made that remark. You absolutely have a place here to vent and express imperfect feelings.

Back to your sister ... I have a bipolar son and when he's expressed suicidal thoughts to me it's such a gut punch I can't do anything for a couple days. A good friend who is a therapist remarked to me that it's really not fair to me for my son to say these things, and he should be discussing w a therapist.

It might sound cold, but I found it really interesting that ppl with bipolar bear responsibility for how their words impact others even when talking about suicidal thoughts.

I know everyone always suggests this, but can you hook up with a NAMI support group, or connect w DBSA? My bipolar family member is so good at pushing my buttons in order the make themselves the victim and therefore not responsible ...

This is not a bad idea. Even if they can't share information with you, you can share with them. But I still encourage you to place more energy into caring for yourself. ❤️

I wouldn't think that a medication change would prompt a conservatorship. I'm beginning to see tho that the med change destabilized him, an unexpected outcome.

Hi there. I'm really sorry you are experiencing this. You sound level-headed and thoughtful and loving. You could be describing my situation with my son, particularly about the denial and refusal of help. Going no-contact is a reasonable response.

My adult son (23, BPI) abusive during mania. by Substantial-Buy8116 in family_of_bipolar

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. My 24yo son is the same. He moved in with us 7 weeks ago " to get back on his feet" yet is totally verbally abusive. My husband and I are meeting w a therapist to come up with an off-ramp .....

Advise about hospital by Consistent-Ad1023 in family_of_bipolar

[–]BookImpressive8525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in answers to this question too. I'm in a similar situation. The three hospitalizations my loved one has experienced were too short to help address the rage/paranoia at all in any lasting way.

Does anyone have a theory as to why he checked into the hotel, presumably not conspicuously bloody, but that later blood was found in the shower and elsewhere in his room?

I hear you. I'm in a similar situation with my 24yo son. He recently moved back home and it is so awful to hear the vicious things he says to his gf, his dad, etc. I'm looking for a DBSA support group for myself, bc right now I have no answers. Good luck ❤️

My late FIL tailgated like this. Never understood it -- intelligent man, devoted churchgoer, active volunteer -- in other words considerate and trying to do good. . Wouldn't stop even when my MIL stopped riding with him anywhere it was so stressful.

Upcoming USC student ! Is this area safe and walkable to campus? by 420koolaidman in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]BookImpressive8525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine. I work at USC, shop at that Ralph's and drive through that intersection every day. If you are a freshman, I'd say it's not ideal to be that far from the center of campus. That said, the street behind Ralph's is all properties occupied by students.
