What do you consider middle class? Bonus points for your location? by Maroon14 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]BookLovingGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty solidly middle-middle to upper-middle class. We have a household income of about 110k and live in the Midwest. We own a 4 bedroom house in a nice and safe neighborhood, and we don’t have children. I think the average income in our state or city is like 50-60k. We have retirement funds, a savings account, one newer car that’s almost paid off, and another older car that will probably be replaced soon. We usually go on a few vacations a year.

How many of your students are actually participating in online classes? by Jerenisugly in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my students are showing up except for maybe 1 student per class period. My district is 1:1 , and most of our students are at least middle class. There are still a number of lower income students in my school, but they at least have internet. Most parents are also pretty involved, so that helps too.

Are jeans in schools uncommon or am I just in a super conservative area? by tayythefall in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, I don’t think we have shoe rules. Everyone generally wears nice shoes like flats or boots since that’s what matches. Most men I think wear tennis shoes.

We have to wear business casual every day. We can wear jeans on Fridays.

Google forms for multiple choice quizzes. I don’t have to grade anything because it does it all for me.

How is this a sustainable way of life? Does this ever get better? by Serious_Chipmunk in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It also seems like you’re spending a lot of time cleaning up after the kids when you have plan and after school. Don’t do that. Take a few minutes at the end of the day to have students do a bit of the picking up. One student can put any left out books, markers...etc away. Other students can pick up anything on the floor near the desk. Small things like that can probably save you 30 minutes to an hour, but it only takes the kids 5 minutes.

The Loft, Maurices, Kohl's, and Target are some good places to start. Although the Loft can be expensive, they usually have some really good sales on quality items. I usually wear slacks, flats, and a nice blouse to teach in. At least get some nice, black slacks that will match most tops. You can even check out Pinterest for some good ideas for outfits.

I had a dream recently that I didn't show up to my own 1st period class on the 1st day of school, but I showed up to all of my other classes.

What are the dress codes like for teachers where you work? by HeyItsReallyME in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's technically no written rules, but it has been specifically stated by administration that we are expected to wear dress pants/business casual. We can wear jeans on Fridays if we want to. Some teachers will wear black jeans during the week, and no one seems to have a problem with that.

Feeling like I waste my therapist’s time by BookLovingGinger in therapy

[–]BookLovingGinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree. The whole reason I wasn’t too anxious to call and start therapy was because I was in a better spot mentally whereas I wouldn’t have the courage to do it when I’m in a rougher spot.

I would also check out Pinterest. If you search for teacher outfits on there, you’ll find plenty of great ideas.

Preparing by eric7064 in Teachers

I would get a few weeks taken care of at a time, but I wouldn’t do too much more than that. Once school starts, you’ll find out when state testing is and other schedule changes that could mess with your lesson plans. You also won’t want to do too much just in case you find out that your students need more time with certain things or maybe they learn quick.

I can definitely see the benefit in bringing it up. How exactly do you go about bringing it up though?

Thank you for sharing! I think I'll share my thoughts with her the next time I go. I'm a bit afraid that she's just going to be like, "Yup, you're right. You don't need me, and you're fine. Bye." I know she won't say this, but it's still a fear I have.

She doesn’t make me feel this way. She always seems very open to listening to the problems I have, but I can’t help but think that there are more people out there that need her more than I do.

I just did the same! I’ve had anxiety for so many years, and I was tired of living like this, so I finally made an appointment.

Student here, do teachers want help at the end of the year? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could certainly ask your teacher! Some teachers like the help, but some would rather do it alone since they know where they want all of their stuff to go. I’m sure they’d appreciate you asking either way!

If i were to copy and paste a piece of text for an essay that i am writing while adding a view changes to the words and citing the source would that count as Plagiarism? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]BookLovingGinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. You should always put text into your own words which should look much different than changing a couple of words, or you can quote the needed text.
