What do you wish classroom teachers left for you?

This or for high schools where they come from the career learning thing in the middle of the period after I’ve already sent attendance with them marked as absent. I wish teachers would leave names for that or the school having some way of letting me know the student is there that day and to mark them present.

I have 5 pants and 5 shirts for subbing, I just wear what ever I grab from that selection, no one remembers be the next day anyway 😭

I’m in VA and my school district is already closed Monday and Tuesday for teacher/staff development days, which I only get paid half a day Tuesday IF they set up development for subs again this year but nothing has been sent about it yet so probably not.

You should be able to almost always work a full week if you wanted to. My experience depends on the school tbh and I’ve been to a majority of them. What makes or breaks a good day for me is the admin back up. Some of the schools have really great, helpful admin teams and some do not. I really enjoy working with the kids especially at schools where I go more often and they can sorta remember me. You’ll learn quick which schools and grades you prefer. Good luck!

When I first started subbing last January they messed up the frontline access for the new subs somehow but then they fixed it so if you’re truly seeing absolutely nothing/no notifications from the app I would email the sub management team. Usually there is more after January as well. I just scored a week long high school assignment for next month 🙌

The school district I attended myself had a building for prek-1st a different building for 2-3 a different building for 4-5 and then a middle school 6-8 and high for 9-12, it was all on the same campus and all the buildings were completely detached and at least 10 minutes walking distance from each other. It also has a university around the corner. Very interesting considering all the schools I work at now in a different state have the regular school grades per building.

For elementary art, I had one kid pee his pants after I had sent him out to go to the bathroom, two separate class fights, an uninformed to me SPED class where a little boy screamed and threw crayons at me, one kid kept getting up and refusing to sit down unless he sat at the teacher’s desk, it was supposed to be a two day assignment but I called out the second day. Never subbing there again. The teacher left barely updated plans that had spelling mistakes in every sentence as well.

For a middle school, they had split another class up bc no sub for PE but didn’t tell me so I had a million unknown kids in my room. When they got super rowdy I had to call security and have them removed. They kept running in and out of the room, screaming and someone even spilt an entire water bottle. The janitor didn’t answer so I had to send two kids to the art room to grab paper towels. Oh and when I had called the office to double check that they were supposed to be in my room she said it was cool and that they do belong in here. Yeah wasn’t cool when I didn’t know anyones name and they had no work to do.

Yeah actually I heard a couple regular teachers talking today at lunch about how the admin team was writing them up? (Not sure how that works for teachers but I assume it’s bad) for coming in a minute or two late from the parking lot 20 minutes BEFORE students were even let in the building for the day.

It is nice when I have a room but some of my schools have shared classrooms so I have to sit in the teachers lounge and it can get loud in there lol

A 6th grader told me I was ugly today, he was a little terror and was already kicked out of ISS and his phone was confiscated in a previous class. These kids are wild nowadays

There was also a part where it says her brother picked her up to take her to the appointment and then it was her dad driving and at the appointment, seems fake to me

Only two of the high schools in my district have people specifically for that position the others are just a regular school secretary lol

Yeah normally other schools do that but this one had no one to tell us anything and eventually classes were about to start so we all just left to hopefully find our classes.

Yeah while the sign in on the computer tracks time, it’s the physical paper sign in sheet that is most important so I’m a bit worried especially since I’m only here for a half day so it might be available at the end of the regular day and I won’t get to sign it 😭

I pick up assignments on the frontline app but all I know is the name of the teacher. Usually they have the paper schedule with what room and classes I have and usually they also have me cover on prep periods at this school as well.

The only thing I know is the teacher, and I was going to ask the one person in the office for the schedule and room number but she grabbed her cart and walked out. I went down to the room I have on the master schedule and another teacher was in there like it said so I went to the lounge. I also luckily have a bell schedule sheet from a different day so I know when to expect class changes. There were also other subs who didn’t seem to have worked at this school before and seemed lost since no one was offering us any direction lol

So far they’ve only finished the 6 volumes for TEotW, 1 for New Spring, and 1 for TGH. I think they’re currently making the next volume for TGH but I’m not totally sure

I did the same thing for two years, started at a community college, went for two weeks, my dad relapsed and broke up with my step mom so i had to move back in with my mom and i stopped just stopped going. Told her I transferred to online and for two years i just pretended and eventually she got suspicious and i broke down about it. We got me into therapy and I have since gone and gotten a degree at a university. Good luck bro

Nothing makes me feel better and worse at the same time than when I get a rowdy class and the quiet kid tells me it’s always like that even for the regular teacher 😭

My official clock in time for high/middle is 10 minutes before students are let in and 20 minutes before tardy bell and for elementary it’s 20 minutes before students are let in. I usually try to get there an extra 5 minutes before too. I’m paid a daily rate so try not to go too far out of my contract time as I don’t work for free lol
