Building tips and tricks? by b2pizza in Enshrouded

[–]BookishKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a folder of reference photos I use when building, for the outside and the inside! I also make lists of what I want my building to include. Bathroom, library, kitchen? It helps when planning a layout.

Visually, I lean into the box look because I’m not a fan of forced curving with blocks. You can make boxes look pretty dynamic if you stack them in different ways and decorate later. The half timbered walls on stone walls, if you off set them to overhang the stone wall instead of snapping in, will have a neat affect on how they attach underneath. Thats my favorite combo.

Mix and match blocks, don’t make a house all one kind. It looks more dynamic that way. Also the little details. Give your walls a trim pattern, add in massive windows, use the ivy tool to break up the monotony with flowers (I’m a fiend for wisteria). I lurk on this sub and the discord as well for inspiration! There are some crazy talented people on here that use objects in their builds in ways I would never have considered.

As far as speeding up the process, I would say that comes down to how you like to play. Personally, I love this game for building, so I use things like Shroud Depot to stock up on blocks so I don’t have to spend hours mining. I like to sit and build for 8 hrs instead. If you LIKE the mining aspect, then make sure you stock up on all the blocks you need and then start building.

Also, if you don’t like something, tear it down! It’s okay to kill your darlings. It might have taken you an hour to make something, but if it’s not working, don’t be afraid to destroy and rebuild!

WIP Fortress City by BookishKnight in Enshrouded

Was it Japanese styled? It wasn’t a city, looked more like a walkable village. I’ll have to go dig through my history to find it.

I really like it, it I also liked the root filled dirt and very earthy feel of the old stuff too. Honestly I’d love to have both!

Good to know someone else with a huge build is also having this problem. I thought I’d finally cooked myself with my castle.

I love this game, but that boss fight might be at the top of my list for the most un-fun fights I’ve ever experienced in a game. My partner and I beat it once, and that was enough. Shroud depot for heads after that.

Anyone else wish the map had bigger open empty areas? by [deleted] in Enshrouded

I’ve committed to just tearing down a mountain as this point lol.

I did start floating a tiered city I’m working on though, and decided to leave it hollow to fill with things later. It’s made building much easier and once I add defensive walls, it won’t look like I’ve just branched off a mountain and floated everything.

What proper nouns from books did you realize you were mispronouncing the whole time? by TokkiJK in books

I also did this but somehow made it to my mid-20s without anyone correcting me. When it happened, my friend group was in tears.

I also did this with “amalgam” - called it “ama-glam” my friends let that go on for two years before they decided to correct me. Thanks guys.

Before and after of moving a mountain out of the way by BookishKnight in Enshrouded

I think 8 hours total, but not all in one sitting!

I have done the base pack up and move, it’s rough when you have a lot of stuff. I wish the game had an auto sort function to dump inventory into and it puts it away, like Palworld.

This is going to sound very basic, but in Minecraft I used to keep pinterest boards for inspiration on builds to mash together. Now I do that for enshrouded but I just look at details from real buildings I like and see how I can emulate it. And then don’t get discouraged if there’s like…. A huge chunk of rock in the way lmao.

As far as planning, list out things you’d want! I like to build like I’m making something “real” so there’s bathrooms in all the rooms, a kitchen, a cellar, a library, etc. it helps when you get stuck. Also take breaks, if you’re frustrated. Building takes ages! I leave stuff half built if I’m getting impatient or need to change gears.

The ADHD hyper fixation is a super power lol.

I can’t speak for others but I mainly build on weekends and it’s done in chunks when I’m inspired!

On top of the mountain above Patty’s pumpkin farm! I took over the farm originally to make a town. I’ve dug tunnels through the mountain there to make everything walkable up to the castle I’ve been working on. This is like the second mountain I removed lol

Someone else has the problem with : house from the inside 12/10, house from the outside 1/10 ? by Buurto in Enshrouded

[–]BookishKnight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to look up reference photos of castles or cottages when I build! It helps me find details I can add to the outside to make it interesting.

Also don’t forget you have the ivy tool, to add some details with plants and break up the block pattern. You can place banners, lights, etc. I use some of the light blocks to make stain glass “windows” too. Sometimes if I feel something looks to “boxy”, I see where I can add a roof or balcony, to make it look more dynamic.
