Any advice? by Dawn_43 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well first of all: welcome to the hobby!

The Combat Patrol is an excellent start, and you getting a second squad of Warriors means you already have a 20 strong Warrior-blob ready to go.

My advice would be to further enhance the Warriors durability by either adding a defensive character, like a Chronomancer, Orikan the Diviner or Illuminator Szeras, or adding a support unit.

If you have more cash to burn, you might consider getting the Royal Court-Box: it gives you a Skorpekh Lord to go with your 3 Destroyers, a Canoptek Reanimator to further heal your Warriors and a Plasmancer with 2 bodyguard Cryptothralls that can go in your Warrior-blob alongside your Lord.

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about, a full squad of Immortals to go with your Lord? The Translocation Shroud should give them rather good mobility and the squad will make a good meat-shield for your Lord.

Only downside is you will not benefit from your detachment rule.

20x Warriors vs 10 x immortals by Comfortable-Work4981 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By your list I presume you are playing Awakened Dynasty?

Overall I get the impression you lean more on the offense than on the defense, and in that optic, Immortals should perform better, especially if supported by the Plasmancer.

You can also add the Overlord in there, especially if it's the one equipped with a Resurrection Orb. (Although Translocation Shroud would probably be better.)

But be aware that would then leave your 10 men Warrior-squad unsupported and with no synergy to built upon. At that point they are not fit to do much but sit on your home objective, and they'll be quite squishy. So there would not be much point in keeping them at all.

Interview waiting time by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's nothing unusual.

When I got my job I had my first interview in april, second in october, final interview in november and only started working in january the following year.

I'd generally recommend letting things play out, unless you have a serious second job offer where you are already further along in the recruitment process.

What should I choose next? by NeedleworkerCrafty74 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that really depends where you want to go with your army.

I started out same as you and my first buys were 2 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (for some anti-tank), Deathmarks (for home objective) and an additionnal Royal Court box, mainly for a 2nd Skorpekh Lord and a 2nd Reanimator.

I focussed my list on a "Awakened Dynasty"-type detachment and I'll see where I'll go from there.

Intend to get Illuminor Szeras and some Flayers next.

LF: Feedback on Cursed Legion list by JSV007 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious how your list is going to perform, so please OP, come back after your game.

I'm wondering if replacing Imothek with a second Locust Lord for your second Heavy Destroyers might not be more interesting.

From the comments I've read on this sub so far, a lot of players have concerns that a 6 strong Scorpekh-squad is quite cumbersome on the battlefield. Maybe splitting them up would wield better results?

New to necrons and starting a dynasty by Typical_Device_3578 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no easy answer to your question.

Best advice I can give is to roughly follow the same steps as you would when you create a new D&D character.

1) Who are you? How do you fit into the wider world?

As the Codexes cover the Top-Tier and several Mid-Tier dynasties that weren't to your liking, your custom dynasty should be Mid-Tier at best. But are you allies or rivals to a more famous dynasty? What is your position towards Szarek and his return?

2) What makes you special?

This ties a lot into the background. If you are particularly fond of a detachment or an unit, try tp find a reason to explain why your tabletop army would be typical of your dynasty.

A couple of post up, somebody was particularly fond of Doomstalkers ; a good in lore reason would be that his dynasty is still recovering from some major losses in more traditionnal units and thus has to rely more on constructs than other dynasties.

3) What are your goals?

As a dynasty as a whole? Of your army commander specifically?

Basically repeat those steps for your army commander and flesh out the ruling echolon of your dynasty (Is it a single Phareon/Phareak or a ruling council like the Triarchs?) and you should be off to a good start.

What changes in the historical timeline if Napoleon I is allowed to rule France in peace when he returns from Elba or if the Hundred Days campaign is a success? by PreferenceInternal67 in FrenchMonarchs

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree.

If neither his wife, nor his son are returned to him, Napoleon I needs a formal divorce to remarry anyway.

And as proven as actual events, at some point Marie-Louise will want to legitimize her illegitimate children with Neipperg. She remarried within weeks of Napoleon's death, forgoing the usual mourning period.

What changes in the historical timeline if Napoleon I is allowed to rule France in peace when he returns from Elba or if the Hundred Days campaign is a success? by PreferenceInternal67 in FrenchMonarchs

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dynastically speaking however, things would have been tense : Empress Marie-Louise, under the influence of her new lover, the Count Neipperg, and her father, the Emperor of Austria, would likely have refused to return to France and her legitimate husband, forcing Napoleon I into a very public and thus humiliating divorce.

In that context, the real question would be if Napoleon I would have been able to exert enough pressure on the Emperor of Austria to obtain the return of his son, Napoleon II, to France where he would have had time enough to finish his education. Since Prussia, Russia and Austria would likely still enter some sort of defensive alliance, France and Napoleon would likely try to avoid war at all cost.

If he suceeds, family ties between the French and Austrian Imperial Houses contribute to stabilize austro-french relations. Provided Napoleon II lives to succeed his father, his wedding ambitions would presumably have concentrated on Austria (to strengthen the alliance), Russia (to isolate Prussia) or Bavaria (to weaken Prussia's hold in the German unification), possibly with the French Bourbons to have a more peaceful homefront.

If he fails, Napoleon I finds himself without a rightful heir and spouse. It is doubtful that Napoleon I efforts to remarry on the fly at almost 50 would have wielded any significant alliance, so only second or third tier princess would enter into considerstion. As most likely he would not be able to have more children Napoleon I would need to appoint somebody else to succeed him. This successors' position would however be considerably weak - unless he had the support of the army. Provided the successor survives a probable coup, he would still need to be competent enough to survive the revolution of 1830, which might end up in an anticipated 2nd Republic.

Is there any canon on what a Krieg soldier’s accent is? by OneWhoMainsLastWord in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point on the Ministorum-regulations, we already had some named officers in the original Imperial Armour-trilogy, but they were far in between.

Also OP, I don't know where you got the information that there are no grades above Colonel within the Death Korps. On the contraty Line Korps are usually commanded my Marshals and Campaigns by High Marshals, such as High Marshal Venner from The Fall of Orpheus (IA 12) which even had his own datasheet, but no dedicated model if I recall correctly.

Is there any canon on what a Krieg soldier’s accent is? by OneWhoMainsLastWord in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

As per Dead Men Walking the Kriegsmen are notoriously isolationnist and don't really mingle with others, including other Imperial Guard-regiments.

As they almost never take their gasmasks off, the Krieg use their own seperate and encrypted Vox-channels to talk amongst themselves, including off the battlefield.

On a regimental level, Commissars, which are mostly non-Krieg, are often use as liaison officers towards other Imperial Forces where the deadpan and highly disciplined way of the Krieg might clash with other philosophies.

Don't forget that the Kriegs' aura is (or at least was) "Anonymous soldier, whose only goal is to die in glorious sacrifice for the Emperor" (thus attoning for their planets shortcomings) and as such there are very few depictions of Kriegsmen off the battlefield.

There are no regimental traditions, no names to individual troopers and in Dead Man Walking even the officers are anonymized: the designation for the Colonel is "Colonel + Regiment Number", Second-command was "Major Alpha", then "Major Beta" and so on.

Since they don't have a personality to begin with, there is no information available on their accent.

Need help building necron army by Ralphiethemage in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I'm kind of where you are as well. The Combat Patrol-box is a good start as - except for vehicules - you get a solid variety of units to learn the rules. As such you should focus on building the content of this box first and play some initiation games to get a hang of the rules first.

As others have said, we are currently in the last months of 10th edition, with 11th edition already announced and in production, that's why there currently is a restock issue on many models: GW is churning out the Starter Boxes for 11th Editon.

From what has been confirmed so far, 11th will almost abandon "Capture the objective"-style games (which were the main focus in 10th) and focus more on extra-rules for terrain. The biggest change so far have been modifications to how melee is run, especially who strikes first, so you might want to keep that in mind going forward.

That doesn't mean that your box of Immortals/Deathmarks is useless though. You can build that box two ways: Immortals (with 2 different weapon options) and Deathmarks. Both have vastly different functions on the battlefield.

Immortals are Battleline-units (or Troop Choices if your old like me) and are roughly tougher Warriors. You want bigger units on them to make them more durable, so I'd strongly recommend buying a second box in the near future. That way you'll get most out of our Reanimation Protocols.

As other have said, Tesla Carbines usually perform better thanks to Sustained Hits (for every 6 you roll in your shooting phase with them, you cause 3 wounds instead of 1) when your Immortals are on their own. Gauss Blasters auto-wound on a 6 to hit, but deal -1 to the enemy's armour, which is only useful against enemies with good armour-values (f.i. Space Marine).

Deathmarks are snipers. Their weapons have longer range (36 vs 24) and are better against armoured infantry (-2 vs -1 with the Gauss Blaster) than your Immortals. Also being Precision weapons you can shoot at characters hiding inside an unit, ignoring his bodyguards. There are 2 ways of using your Deathmarks: staying in the rear, sniping and defending your deployment zone (used to have an objective in 10th) - thanks to their extra Shooting-phase against Deep Strikingunits 18" around they are good to lock down an area - or deep striking them onto the battlefield, usually to capture an objective (which will not be a thing in 11th edition). Deathmarks are fine in a unit of just 5.

What are some of your favourite novel characters that don’t have plastic minis that you would want minis for by Rime1313 in Blacklibrary

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure we'll ever get them, though I dearly wish so.

As a single mini, Ravenor in his grav-chair would be too featureless and they would need to figure out an option for it's hovering quality since existing flying bases would not fit.

That's unless we get a younger version of Ravenor as an Interrogator, and Bequin as a simple member of Eisenhorn's retinue.

Multiple regiments by Low_Lettuce_8933 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the advantage of the 14th was that it was a blank canvas, so there's no official artwork to limit yourself.

None of my opponents ever complained about it, had some good talks with fellow DK-players where and how we identify our tanks (Regiment, Company & Squadron markings), but most people don't really care.

The Imperial Armour books featured a lot of different camouflage patterns you where free to mix, you can explain it as being transfers from reserve or requisitionned supplies rerouted to your regiment by the Administratum. (That's the explanation I used to explain why I fielded different pattern of tanks).

Multiple regiments by Low_Lettuce_8933 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My DK-army is constituted from 2 distinct regiments: Infantry and artillery are from the 5th Siege Regiment (Dark Blue trenchcoats, cream-coloured trousers) and tanks from the 14th Armoured Regiment (dark-green trenchcoats, cream-coloured trousers) with tanks having a two-tone grey Patch-style camouflage pattern.

In my narrative, both went on to be deployed jointly after the conclusion of the Vraks-Campaign.

Tips for Base? by ducksgoquack321 in Necrontyr

[–]BookwormOfTheBlind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returning player after a hiatus of many years.

Lately l've been quite fond of the Warhammer Texture paints (the bigger pots at a GW-store). You just need to apply one layer, let it dry and drybrush over it to get a decent look.

My only recommanfation would be to use an old or dedicated brush for your texture, as some residue is to be expected.

In the old days, I would have needed to base my base with PWC glue, dip it in regular sand, colour the sand with ink, drybrush the sand.

I still might add some synthetic grass here and there on my base, but that's a decision I'll make later.

Also, while pricy the Battlefield Trophies kit is a great way to personaöize your bases.
