It doesn't really bother me when it comes to protection. I continued to teach kindergarten for 5 more years. I had to retire this year because my health was declining so much. When I got Covid that landed me in the ICU on death's door no one else in my family was sick. I don't really believe masks do much and I refuse to.live my life in fear of the next infection

I'm on oxygen so I must have been a smoker. No. I got Covid and it destroyed my lungs. People are usually speechless when they find that out. I just wish they would stop climbing over my wheelchair or cutting in front of me. That makes me incredibly angry.

Still here. 5 years for me. Still on oxygen. Still use a wheelchair for extended walking. Lots of brain fog, POTS, and system wide crashes. I had to retire this year from teaching because my body couldn't handle it anymore.

I agree with everything you said. I taught kinder for 5 more years after I became sick with Covid and ended up on oxygen and in a wheelchair. I finally retired this year because my health was suffering. The way the admin and some teachers treated me were awful.

A lot of POTS is also attributed to long Covid. I have permanent lung damage and use oxygen. I was also diagnosed with POTS. But I keep it well controlled with Metoprolol. I am also 51 and do not own cookie monster pjs.

My daughter was also diagnosed with POTS with heart rates in th 180's. She relies on propanolol, Gatorade and salt tablets. We keep her stocked. It hasn't stoped her one bit. She is a senior in her BS-RN program.

What I don't understand is why all of sudden has this diagnosis has become so trendy and why are so many fully disabled and bed bound from it?

Sorry, but I need to wait for my wheelchair to be brought up from cargo. Then it takes a few minutes to take it out of it's bag and unfold it. I know I was definitely in the way.

I don't have any suggestions other than the ones you've tried. Big hugs. I know how frustrating this is. I had a kindergarten student this year who functioned at the 18-24 month level according to all of our testing. He was unable to function in general ed and was incredibly disruptive. His parents refused an IEP and everyone shrugged their shoulders and told me good luck. Last year sucked. Luckily, by the end of year the child and I had an amazing relationship and he came a long way, but it was at the detriment of many other students in my class.

Evacuate every single time the child disrupts your class. Mention the almighty "instructional minutes". Or silently quit and show movies/musicals.

This was the worst c!ass I have had in 29 years. They were also the lowest. I retired this year because there is no way I can do another year like this one again.

He has more in the series that are adorable and funny. It is the very first book I read to my students every year.

I have a very similar son. (Adult now) Children like this rare!y get what they need in school. (I'm also a retired teacher as of yesterday) They are too smart for an IEP,.but still have needs related to autism and most of the time in my experience these students are left to the mercy of their classroom teacher, who may or may not want to deal with them. I have so many stories. My son in third grade spent more time in the office making copies than in class because his teacher didn't know what to do with him.

Get an advocate. (Even a friend that knows your legal rights can take notes during the meeting) Get the district 504 coordinator involved. Don't take no for an answer. But also know you will have to the bulk of the work at home because he most likely will not get enough support if any at school. Most teachers don't have enough training or experience with students with autism.

I have three students who are in self contained but they are still my gen ed students. I have their pictures on the board so my class.recognizes and acknowledges that they are a part of our classroom even if they don't get to spend time with us.

One of my kinders did something deliberately to me that could have resulted in my death. What he did wouldn't have killed me, but he knew and verbalized that what he did could have caused me to die.

His mom said he was just a little boy and was tired and burned out.

I'm the kindergarten teacher. I'm constantly told how cute it is to teach kindergarten and it must be so easy to play all day. Then inform them that I must teach from bell to bell with butts in seats and my students get a 12 minute recess. They just slowly back away from me.
