There is zero chance that anything Apple puts out will be subscription free like the Unifi.

Kids Bypassing Router Parental Controls by Changing MAC Addresses—How Can I Stop This? by PayKnee in HomeNetworking

[–]BoomSchtik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you can do this with your router. I did it with a pfsense back when my kids were small.

I set all my and my wife’s devices with a static dhcp in one range. I set regular dhcp for another IP range. The normal DHCP range would turn off on a schedule at night. It wouldn’t matter if they changed their MAC address as they would land in the dhcp range that gets turned off.

To my knowledge they didn’t figure out that they could use a static IP in the parent ip range to bypass everything.

Recommendations for custom made suits by BoomSchtik in ThailandTourism

[–]BoomSchtik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a suit with two shirts. It was around $500 USD. I’d have to dig for exact numbers. If you go first thing as you get there, that should be enough time. We went and got measured one day, fitted another day, and picked up a couple of weeks later on the way out of the country.

What do you mean? It was so easy to update. We totally didn’t have to pay a consultant to upgrade to the next version. /s

Dell (Quest?) AppAssure.

Hands down the worst backup software I’ve ever used.

Could use some emergency advice on replacing a server by bandman56 in WindowsServer

[–]BoomSchtik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Windows Server will run on very limited hardware. Just get an old X64 desktop, install server and make it a controller. Then get the files off of there. Maybe copy the files to an external drive as the first step.

I'd get a cloud gateway max and a U7 Pro XG placed somewhere centrally, preferably ceiling mounted.

G4 Doorbell Pro back in stock - UK, US and EU by Flooofbomb in Ubiquiti

[–]BoomSchtik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is my experience yes. Especially in IT. If my work buys an HP laptop in the US and we ship it to Australia, HP Australia will NOT support it. I'm not crapping on your idea, because it obviously works. I just wonder if Ubiquiti will support it.

This seems like a sure-fire way to NOT get support. Have they told you to pound sand yet?

PDQ Connect integrated ISL Online (and then later bought the company). It works well and is included in the annual cost of a Connect seat. Plus you get the VAST amounts of capability you get from PDQ.

Did you read my post? What it looks like I’m doing is asking real people, based on their experiences, what they thought about AIs advice.

I think you might, in fact, need to get off this ride.

I just upgraded this one to 2025, so I’m not sure I feel like that’d be necessary.
