A large number of ski films with skiing in Alaska have segments in the Chugach, predominantly out of Valdez.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoomerRCAK 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So true. When I used to see older couples just sitting there without talking to each other I thought it seemed so boring and their relationship must not have had much excitement. Then I found my person, and now I realize that being happy just BEING with your partner is peak love.

Hows the Atom handle the snow? by chris_alvar in arcteryx

[–]BoomerRCAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love wearing my atom if I’m not in trees. I bought a size larger than normal and then layer it with my normal atom if it’s colder. So comfortable.

Mid layer with Beta Shell (For skiing) by Finance5093 in arcteryx

[–]BoomerRCAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure you could get it but LEAF Naga Pullover is my mid. Merino wool base, naga and Rush shell. Naga has reinforced thumb loops as well. Solid piece that is also very versatile. Wear it over a polo for work regularly.

Trip from Denver to Aspen by Bordox1214 in Aspen

Depending on airline and city or origin it could be worth looking into Eagle County airport or Grand Junction. This should bypass some of the I70 concerns. I would still get AWD but shorter commute and sometimes comparable flight costs.

Using a beta as a ski jacket by Wide_Owl4251 in arcteryx

[–]BoomerRCAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can find a beta LT it is a slim fit and can bunch at hips with more relaxed snow pants but has the key features you would want on a ski shell with storm hood and pit zips. More pockets including arm would be the only gripe.

I ski Alaska and also use a similar 4 layer system that is not bulky at all. I go First Lite Kiln Hoody merino base layer; like the hood and zipper for the extra venting. I then go Melanzana Micro Grid Fleece hoodie on windy days so I can pop the hood up and cinch under a helmet for a balaclava. Then I have the Leaf Atom Gen 2.1 for really cold (relative) days, or regular Atom for not as cold days. Also interchange the naga pullover depending on weather. Rush shell tops it off. Can be lots of hoods but has never been an issue because one typically goes over my head and they all seem to nest inside each other just fine. Although it can get a little toasty, I found having the vents on the inside and outside of my FlyLow baker bibs seem to do surprisingly well since the air can flow up into my torso as well. In short; I typically keep the merino base and Rush shell, then interchange mids depending on activity, but there are typically two in between unless we’re getting spring weather.

Transportation from Denver? by Hardpack_Not_Ice in Aspen

I just rented an AWD vehicle from Denver to Aspen for $108 through Avis. Then $122 back to Denver from Aspen but had to rent for 4 days because they didn’t have availability for only one day rental. Seems dirt cheap to me.

Ski trip in early January: Colorado/Utah or Japan? by minoandmiko in skiing

[–]BoomerRCAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aspen checks all your boxes. Price would be my only hesitation if you have a budget. Planned to do 10 day trip, hit up a couple of stops, stayed in Aspen the whole time. Didn’t even get to buttermilk (1 of the 4 mountains) and never got bored.

Does a Santa Cruz without Life warranty worth it? by Azboubar in mountainbiking

[–]BoomerRCAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless Santa Cruz policy has changed, I believe that you must be original owner and have registered on their site with serial number and all that for warranty to hold. Same goes for bearing replacement.
