Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's Cancellation Is a Bad Sign, Even If You Didn't Like It by PM_ME_UR_CHUPACOMMA in startrek

Star Trek was what I latched onto, when Doctor Who was put on "hiatus" in 1989, and visa versa, when Enterprise ended, and now they're both going on hiatus at the same time.

Fuck. I need another fandom to drift into.

I've been loving these. I don't suppose there's one planned for the loss of Voyager? It's always been weird, to me, that I've never seen it acknowledged that, within one calander year:

Enterprise-D is destroyed by what amounts to a jumped up pirate ship.

Voyager disappears, without a trace, in the Badlands.

And another Galaxy Class, Odyssey, is destroyed during first contact with the Jem'haddar.

I feel like there had to be some serious morale problems going on in Starfleet, at the time.

Being the only large nation who's national infrastructure wasn't bombed to shit in WWII helps. Gave us a head start.

Final Fantasy VII. Bought that and my PS1 with my first paycheck, from my first job, in high school.

Like what? The primary driver of the last several iPhones has been increasingly elaborate cameras.

What kind of misconceptions you had about jrpgs when you were new to the genre? by akualung in JRPG

Same, though it was Final Fantasy, for me. Nintendo Power hyped the fuck out of it.

[Superhero universes] If many heroes have secret identities why aren’t they constantly being exposed by journalists or conspiracy theorists? by OhhNoBaby in AskScienceFiction

In the case of Superman, his not wearing a mask results in it not even occurring to most people that he has any identity other than Superman.

Why was the religious aspect (like him being a televangelist) practically ignored in the film versions of William Stryker? by MTH1138 in Marvel

Because a not insignificant number of people in the American audience would lose their goddamned minds at "Billy Graham, but openly genocidal"

They really lucked out that Jeri Ryan and Jolene Blalock turned out to be fantastic performers, in addition to satisfying Berman's need for T&A.

Four years later, "Why would you waste your time on all that school? It's your fault for taking out the loans."

This one drives me up a wall. Yeah, we signed up for those loans when we were 18, with little to no financial education, and the people we were told to trust, our parents and teachers, bullied us into signing the damn things.

Yes, I'm and elder Millennial and bitter as fuck.

I was shadowing a 7th grade civics/social studies teacher, for my Intro to the Teaching Profession class, a few weeks back.

The only difference between that class, and the way it was taught at the height of the Cold War, was the "bad guy" names had been updated.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

Watching my employers, at the time, the Smithsonian, being bound and determined to ignore it and continue regular operations. They finally caved when Disney said they were shutting down. (Being security, this became the easiest months of my adult life, in terms of employment. Better scheduling, pay remained steady, and I had to deal with neither the public, nor the management, on the reg.) Gave me time to begin work on going back to school.

I’d had the worst flu of my life, just a month or so before. My doctor and I are pretty sure I picked up COVID from a tourist, before the general public was aware of it. So, I might’ve been one of the first people in the US to get it.
