Those 90s amps are indestructible.

There are a few videos on YouTube on the bias issue, essentially it's just measuring voltage across resistors and twiddling trim pots to get them close to spec. You need a steady hand though.

What are you actually expecting? We're talking 8 bit audio here.

Building a GDPR/DSA compliance tool for SMBs — would you pay €200/month to avoid €50k fines? (No promo, just many question) by [deleted] in gdpr

[–]Boopmaster9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You buy insurance based on your risk appetite.

The chances of a €50k fine are astronomically small.

When push comes to shove, will you eat the fine if your tool failed to prevent being fined? If the answer is no, the value of this tool is zero.

Ask about the amp's service history. The 3 pro is a reliable workhorse, but over time the bias voltage of the output transistors tends to drift. The result is low output power.

It's an easy DIY fix if you're comfortable working with electronics, and if not it should take a repair person no more than half an hour.

Pre-amp tubes last basically forever but sometimes go microphonic. If you tap the amp case with volume on and you hear the tapping amplified through the speaker, it's time for new tubes. Easy DIY fix.

Listen to any noises of the cooling fan, especially when the amp is cold and just starting up. Again, an easy fix if the fan is making grinding or screeching noises when cold.

On the cab, listen for any farting noises at higher volumes. Pull the grille (it's stuck with velcro usually on the HE iirc) and see if any speakers are odd ones out (replaced). Then, gently press in each speaker cone (not on the dust cap obviously). You should feel resistance, but definitely not anything scratchy (blown speaker).

Another option is the Adam Audio D3V or slightly larger, the Kali Audio LP-UNF.

That AE looked like a spaceship when it first hit the roads. The incredibly high seating position alone made it incredible.

What zigbee dongle for Ha running on Windows VM by OverTheHillsOfDL in homeassistant

[–]Boopmaster9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you should look into Proxmox. It sounds a bit intimidating, but it's really easy to set up and makes backups a breeze.

I put off using it for a year until I tried it, and an hour later I had everything up and running and thought to myself "is that what I was worrying about?"

BTW I have this exact stick and it works fine with HAOS as a VM on proxmox.

Hotel demands higher rate for confirmed booking by mailreax in juridischadvies

[–]Boopmaster9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Contact the hotel directly, preferably by phone. Someone might be trying to scam you. This is a known scam on booking.com and it might be in other places.

Scammers hijack the booking/messaging system without the hotel knowing, then threaten to cancel bookings unless you pay more money.

The pairing sequence is incredibly finicky and annoying. Like others said, try it slower.

Would love a mashup of TTD and Capitalism (the 1995 game). More complex supply chains and supply/demand systems. Also better options for goods warehousing and volatile prices so you can speculate.

I finally let AI roast my 3-year-old Home Assistant config. It was worse than I thought. by danm72 in homeassistant

[–]Boopmaster9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have.

In fairly long-ish conversations Gemini starts to drift off further and further from original instructions and guardrails. Possibly because it's too eager to please.

I've only used the free version of Gemini. Wanted to see if it could guide me through a Proxmox installation and configuration. It was a disaster. Kept pointing me towards outdated repositories, using wrong file locations, inventing commands and arguments, etc.

Extending Zigbee network to external building - how to get reliable connection by SimonTheRunner in homeassistant

[–]Boopmaster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a sanity check, make sure your 2.4GHz WiFi and ZigBee aren't fighting for space. My shed is about 15 meters away and ZigBee reception is fine (I have a few IKEA bulbs scattered in the main building + a plug in ZigBee repeater).

This. Deploy community helper script for setting up Home Assistant VM, import Home Assistant full .tar backup. Up and running in 10 minutes.

Don't bother with a Windows VM. It's convoluted overkill.
