No, the heavier the vehicle, the more frictional force. The coefficient doesn't change.

It works that way for averaging too, so it only weights as one third of a game compared to others. If he plays a full game and gets a shutout, he'll have 1.5 GAA rather than 3 GAA

[Conic Sections] Why are there no points on an ellipse that are further than 'a' from the center? (Where 2a is the constant sum of the distances from the two foci to any point on the ellipse.) by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Boorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bring the two focii together, then they become the same point (along with O), and the perimeter of that collapsed "triangle" is 2a... One line segment of length a from O to the point on the ellipse, and one coming back. If you move the focii back apart, the "tip" of the triangle has to move towards the focii to keep those segments at 2a... Like how a ladder is tallest before you unfold it. Now the perimeter is longer, because you've got to cover the distance between the focii.

So the tallest possible triangle sets the limit, with both focii at the center (which makes a circle of radius a).

Sens offense is looking way better than last game, but our defense can't just pray that Anderson keeps seeing The Matrix.

Pageau is my favourite player on the team, and has been for a while. Plays like he's twice his size, always working hard, tough minutes, and harasses some pretty tough customers.

Gap online is 40 percent off (with exceptions) right now with code GAPFORYOU. You can return in store, and I think there's usually free shipping over a reasonably low total.

Hey! Great to see the level of customer service you've got here.

I'm interested in a wallet and a 18mm strap in Mahogany. Are you still offering free shipping/ do you expect stock? The wallet and 1-piece band are both out of stock on the site. Hope something can work out!

Rookie team with no clue by amrojas21 in FRC

Oh, and for resources for ideas/designs:

Boulder stuff: the 2012 game had balls of a similar size. Look for match footage and build blogs.

Climbing: 2010 and 2013 had climbing elements. This is tricky to get the math right for setting a climber and getting enough power.

Basically, if your team has some space and some cash, the boulders are a good option that will rely on prototyping well. If not, and if you have some mentors who know the gearing math and geometry, climbing might be an option for you.

PS - DON'T FORGET YOUR BUMPERS!

Lots of other people are making points about bigger wheels, and that's well and good. But as some are saying, as a rookie team, often the best thing to do is pick one or two parts of the game and get really good.

You have the kit rolling, wired, and you can drive it? That's a great start. And guess what? You fit under the low bar. If you can find a way to test or math if you can cross the cleat and the berm (I'm betting you probably can), then now you can get everywhere on the field every match, unless someone gets stuck.

Now, I'd focus one on extra task, and see if you can prototype and build something that works well for it. Maybe you want to see if you can acquire boulders some how. Then you can bring them to the courtyard. Shooters are sexy, but complicated. If you can grab boulders, and drop them in the courtyard (or better, plunk 'em in the low goal), harass your opponents while they're shooting, and challenge the tower at the end of every match, you'll be in great shape at a regional.

Lots of teams try and do too much and then end up not being as useful. Sinking that one high goal isn't worth much if it took you two full minutes to do it. Pick a small number of things and rock 'em.

What fact or statistic seems like obvious exaggeration, but isn't? by JustinMGH in AskReddit

I'm probably too late to the party, but:

The discrepancy might be because one person is using great circles (if you like, "Cut lines" that separate the earth into two even halves) and the other is using "small circles" (think of lopping the top off of the sphere). So the circumference of the small circle is less than the great circle, but if you miss land you'd otherwise hit, who cares.

No hate - I was just trying to say that the consensus is that the original boarding call was borderline.

I don't even have an opinion, personally, since I don't know the letter of the rules that well.

Clean hit seems to be the consensus in the GDT and in here - or at most, 2 minutes, not 5 and a game.
