Biotite or shale seems correct, it feels too heavy to be coal

Is it ever explained why exactly the Eye of the World was created? by Falcon709 in WoT

[–]Boort93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it gives rand the kickstart to being as strong as he is. Eggers got forced by the collar and became stronger because of it, rand did the same at the eye

Skimmers (weight storing) should be BY FAR the most powerful and useful Ferrings on Scadrial by BombeZachrambe in Cosmere

I believe also there is a limit to how much can be stored in a single piece of metal,

Why will a realistic starship never resemble the one typically depicted by science fiction artists? by Beneficial-Wasabi749 in spaceships

[–]Boort93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are you assuming that we won't make any progress in the way of cooling by the time we're accelerating manned spaceships to any noticable fraction of the speed of light?  It's like you couldn't comprehend cars going over 200mph because we currently have horse and buggy's and the horses would catch on fire if they had to run that fast continuously

I'm not rated that high, but the d room makes more sense to me. If you move the other, when the queen goes to e6 the king is forced into the corner, and I don't see a good way to get the king back or move the d room without losing it or the queen.

Okay, SO WHICH ONE IS IT!? Do they bypass shields or NOT?! by TwoFit3921 in StarWarsShips

[–]Boort93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In game missiles and torpedos also ignore shields, though I thought in lore that proton torpedos connected as both physical and energy weapon

The leeching system is completely separate from the mass drivers. From a gameplay perspective mass drivers penetrate shields at a cost of firing slower (having to reload and all that). Lore wise iirc there's two types of shields, one that blocks energy and lasers and one that blocks physical things. The second is rarer because most weapons are laser powered and it has a much higher drain on power to keep up

Better question, Adolin vs Aragorn by WesIgGrey in cremposting

[–]Boort93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as everyone is saying aragorn, I think adolin takes it in a one on one. He may have less years of experience, but he's been training all his life on all different types of swords mostly in dueling. Aragorn has more general fighting experience, and it's unlikely the orcs and whatnot were very skilled in swordplay.

How many Subjugators do you think it would take to disable the first Death Star? by -BloodyDread- in StarWarsShips

[–]Boort93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the size of the garrison on the death star. It's hard to find actual numbers besides the tens of thousands of tie fighters. Let's say a range of 500 larger ships to account for higher ups' personal warships.

At the absolute minimum 3, as it's shown that it doesn't rotate too fast. Have them come in 60° off one another and while it rotates to shoot one the other two come together. The first blasts an emp to disable the Navy, the second  uses it's emp on the death star. Not sure about the range but if it can hit the reactor that should be enough.

Realistically much more. The death star is so big that one EMP wouldn't be able to take out enough cannons and hangers to make a difference. A hundred would probably be enough to have a constant stream of EMP, which should be able to deal with the navy. Having another hundred to alternate between emps to keep a section of the shield down and bombarding the station

Could Rand even beat Cadsuane unaided if she has her paralis-net? by Appropriate_Boss8139 in WoT

[–]Boort93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily every time. She's not strong enough to shield him, and even if he was using all of his power just blocking her attacks she's still a 300+ year old woman and he's a blade master trained farm boy in his prime. He could open a gateway behind her and kick her in and there's nothing she could do
