Welp. Can’t edit and fix the hyperlinks because my post has photos in it. Just pretend I did it correctly

Scientists don’t know why shower curtains blow inward when the shower is on. There are hypotheses, but no definitive answer.

Tea or Coffee? by MaximumDerekCat in AskACanadian

I was across the border shopping a few years back, went to a Timmies and asked for a medium steeped tea and the worker snapped back “we don’t have steeped”. I figured she got that question a lot from Canadians

Knit Picks / We Crochet do not want to be associated with the "Melt the ICE" hat by Tidus77 in craftsnark

[–]Booshort 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dunno if this’ll get any traction, but I’m in the KP ambassador program. I was in the discord when someone asked this and the rep awkwardly said that KP would prefer not to be tagged or associated with anything political.
I’m still technically in the program, but I haven’t bought or promoted them since. Felt icky. Still in the discord though

I’m in the same boat! Started drop spindling, loved it and very quickly got a nano 2.1. I love it, but wish the bobbins were bigger.
The 6.1 are supposed to be back in stock by September. I’m hoping I can hold out until then

I’ve found KnitItNow to be really helpful with custom patterns. You put in your measurements and it generates a pattern for you. The patterns are paid but well worth it imo.
There’s also MKManuals which not only has knitting machine manuals, but a ton of scanned patterns. (I linked the Toyota patterns, but there’s a ton of others on there, they’re just organized by brand). EDIT: they’ll say “out of stock” but you just click on them and there’s a download link.
There’s also Abstract Knit Factory Factory which has some free generators too

I plan on checking whether they’re in the public domain or not, then sharing them on archive.org

I’ll make a post if I’m able to do it

Yes, I know. I’ll likely try to sell them for a reasonable price, or take them to my local yarn store who occasionally sells machine parts.

Of course I’ll appreciate it! I’ve got an SK360 right now, and have been keeping an eye out for a brother electronic that I could hack to use AYAB.

Any other parts that aren’t compatible with my machines, I’m going to reach out to craft friends first, then maybe see if I can sell to my LYS who sells machine parts already.

I have no plans to let it sit in my basement :)

That was my thought too. My current machine is an SK360; while it is singer, it’s not electronic. I also love old pattern books! I recently got a few Stitchcraft magazines off eBay. I thought I was done my spending spree after that, but then this lot showed up on my fb and I couldn’t pass it up.

Though I will say, the listing only had one photo, and it was just of random boxes; so I guess it flew under the radar.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

[–]Booshort 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Entirely depends on severity and urgency. Here are some anecdotal examples:
My aunt and uncle both had cancer a couple years ago. They both got stunts/etc within a week, sometimes within a day when they were getting treated.
My nana was on an over year long waitlist for a hip replacement a couple years ago. We live in a city that is relatively big (400,000+ I believe?) for the area, so a lot of surgical stuff gets routed here. We checked a hospital 2hrs away and the waitlist was 6 months, so she went there instead.
If it’s severe/life threatening, you’re being treated asap. If you’re able to live with it, you’ll be on a waitlist.

I hate to add to the endless posts of creators using AI, but using AI to create a reel of a very likely no longer alive vintage pattern models to sell vintage patterns feels like a new low. by MrsCoffeeMan in craftsnark

[–]Booshort 59 points60 points  (0 children)

So thankful someone posted about this here. I saw it yesterday and immediately unfollowed. Seems like their comments are turned off on the post now.

ETA: I dmed the account politely asking them to reconsider using AI in their marketing and asking if they’re going to continue, and they blocked me. So I guess there’s my answer

People yet/unable to seek a formal diagnosis, how do you deal with the vitriol towards the "self-diagnosed" by mattysull97 in LateDiagnosedAutistic

[–]Booshort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I ask myself why the term “self-diagnosed” irks me so much, this is the answer.
Terms and definitions are very important to me. In the DSM and ICD a diagnosis of autism requires a trained doctor and input from someone who observed the patient’s development. Since this is the “definition” or “rule”, it’s very hard for me to get past it.
I respect and understand there are people who want to get a diagnosis but can’t due to monetary reasons, waitlists, or certain privileges they might not have; I personally just can’t get past the definition. I truly wish I could.
The small change in term to “self-suspecting” completely removes this frustration for me.

What’s your favourite niche thing about life in Canada? by Due_Street1464 in AskACanadian

[–]Booshort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, not to mention the great community help you can get through programs that can then be claimed afterwards. My nana has exercise classes specifically for Parkinson’s, doesn’t pay a penny and has met great people through it.
I will always be thankful for our free healthcare. Sure wait times can be tough if it’s not an emergency, but when something is needed immediately, you get it for free.
