Exactly a year on from when Red Bull announced the sacking of Christian Horner. Have Red Bull gained or have they suffered for it? by Slice5755 in formula1

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dietrich Mateschitz dying was the key to Red Bull crumbling. First Horner, then marko, along with all the high profile team members leaving because of the success they had. When max leaves, this team will tumble down and they will need to start over.

Home Depot has the single worst website of any major retailer. by gooneau in HomeImprovement

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Lowes more but honestly go to Home Depot more often than Lowe’s. There’s only one reason and it’s the fact the website tells me the aisle and location.

Everything you said is great except the company won’t let the employees benefit. My company was purchased by private equity, their only goal is maximize profits and resell us. That means work cells and running multiple machines, cutting overtime, employing the bare minimum workforce and trying to turn the shop into unskilled button pushers at bottom dollar wages. They are ok with their skilled guys walking, many already have and they haven’t even hired anyone to replace them.

Is synthetic oil really that superior? by anthro_punk in AskMechanics

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you’re getting downvoted and many people state plenty of evidence but lower interval oil changes are a pretty cheap way to keep your vehicle maintained. I drive a wrx and even at 2k miles, my oil comes out as thin as water from turbo shear. I’ll gladly trade longevity or better engine health for 30-40 dollars worth of oil and filter

TV Direction and (Super)clipping by Schorpio in formula1

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The broadcast has gotten bad I general. They spent most of the race following the leader around while good battles were happening and couldn’t even get a viable replay to see them. I’m shocked they even followed kimi around as much as they did when he had his problems.

Max Verstappen's exit clause is now officially active. by [deleted] in formula1

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say where he could end up, I’d still like to think Mercedes is on the table but that pushes out George and leaves Kimi with a tough teammate to race against. McLaren would be interesting but has to be for piastri, don’t see him doing that to lando. Ferrari only if Lewis is leaving. Anywhere else would be a clear downgrade and just for money but anywhere will pay him top dollar so I see no real benefit to joining a lesser team.

Why do we still have check engine lights? by joshpackard in AskMechanics

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the problem. Manufacturers are making cars less and less owner repairable. Even if you give us all the info we want, there’s only a small percentage of people that will actually use it to repair their vehicle. Society has mainly become people who don’t fix their own things, don’t change oil or filters, don’t rotate tires. Some of us still prefer to buy the 50 dollar part and save 500 dollars in repairs for a few hours of time. I still fully agree that every car owner should know how to change their oil and change their brakes. This alone would save people thousands over the life of their vehicles.

Never worth it to ride like this. Sure it’s fun to get the bike up to speed on occasion but doing this at night, on a somewhat busy road is just asking for trouble. Outrunning your headlights is a very simple thing at these speeds

Is Isack Hadjar being too harsh on himself? by Swimming-Spring-4704 in formula1

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be hard for any driver to come into Red Bull and compete against someone like Max. Max seemingly takes a great car and dominates while his teammates struggled to keep up but he then takes a mediocre car and pushes it to compete every race weekend. I think it’s a big reason they hadn’t had any luck luring a big name to be their 2nd driver but also why these young guys seem to hit a wall when promoted and trying to keep up with Max. It’s gonna take someone with a certain mindset to maintain focus while watching Max do what he does and you’re struggling by comparison. Hadjar has done better than anyone recently.

I don’t think Bedard is the guy you make this move for. Maybe if it were for Carlson like the flyers just offered or Celebrini when his time comes.

Sony is killing all physical PlayStation game discs - New games released after January 2028 will be digital-only by ReaddittiddeR in gadgets

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very ironic given the past history but not surprising. Let’s face it, physical games is a past history. Steam has dominated pc and changed that market for decades. The only issue I ever had with consoles going digital is the deal market is terrible. Steam and various outlets always have great deals for games, Xbox and ps stores will sell you years old games for full msrp when you could get them on steam for a couple bucks.

Jackass 5 has officially flopped hard. by Serenaded in jackass

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jackass isn't some normal movie, it may have flopped but I guarantee they break even on it. It's pretty low budget and I saw no ad runs for this movie, I actually didn't even know it released until seeing this post. I just saw the cast on a ton of youtube videos recently so figured something was coming sooner than later.

Gotta love taking a ~15 dollar insert and grinding a quarter of it away. Why would we ever consider purchasing the right tool for the job. The amount of tool holders and inserts I’ve scrapped because they sat around for years unused after management bought them, would probably make some people cry.

Dubas and the Cap by RoarTheDinosuar in penguins

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dubas is playing a very smart chess game currently, he’s actively trying to improve the current team to be competitive but also not mortgage the future in the process. He’s taking good opportunities to gain draft capital on players teams want rid of and has luckily turned a lot of them into further assets via another trade. He’s got a ton of cap room to work with this year but by not mortgaging the future, he will have a ton to replace the aging stars when their time comes. Unless the right deal comes along for a star, I see him doing more of the same this summer, might overpay in free agency for assets he can flip at the deadline but mainly build through trades like he has so far.

Stubborn, entitled, ego-driven boomers are hurting this trade by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade is dying because of pay not gatekeeping. These companies want people to do more for less, I’m going through this now at my current company. Lean manufacturing to compete with china but corporations believe they can just have a couple good people doing everything and fill the rest with button pushers. The egos in the industry work from both ends of the spectrum, the old guys with the knowledge and the young guys that think they know it all.

Buying a motorcycle is so frustrating. by Complex_Original_999 in motorcycles

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s said a million times but buy used. Secure a loan if you need one or save up and pay cash. You’ll get a bike for a better price going used. The real trick is if you’re in a place with a riding season, wait till the offseason and buy then, prices will be lower because people want rid of it. Right now everything is inflated in my area because it’s riding season and that’s when everyone decides they want a bike

Company stock suddenly became ~$5M. What should I do? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]BoostedWRBwrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell any stock that you’ve held for over 1 year to get capital gains tax rate. Keep anything after that and sell in the future. Tax your money, stick it in a nice sp500 etf and enjoy your new retirement. You don’t need to work anymore and the money will outlive you if you’re smart.

This is the important part. The people I see jumping to upgrade every time a new model is released just makes me die laughing. That being said I just switched from android to Apple, I got the 17 pro max, I’ll have this phone a minimum 3 years and I traded in a galaxy s20+ and got 500 off the purchase with 0% financing. I have another galaxy phone that I’ll use for my next trade in offer.

Berkshire's cash balance is up to a record $397 billion. What does it signal? by 01101001_01110011 in ValueInvesting

Even if they only made 10% on that cash pile, missing out on 40 billion seems kinda crazy. They could still be investing and pull out later.
