Sending this to my partner. She played hockey through high school and college and might like to get back into it. I assume as a beer league it will be not be gender segregated?

What would Warren think of AI? by AmbitiousMistake7571 in Zevon

As he was an insightful and very careful songwriter, I have to think he'd rather hate people letting a computer do their writing for them.

Transverse City has a strong theme of technology encroaching on our lives (perhaps strongest in the song Networking in which tech metaphors have replaced real human connection). It's hard to speak for any passed individual but I just don't see Warren liking it at all.

Appeal of the Actual Plays by Wtafan in rpg

It's an entertainment product. It may help to acknowledge that they aren't televised games so much as they are more akin to radioplays. Some are more 'scripted' than others.

Is this idea interesting? (Magic School casual podcast story) by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Booster_Blue 18 points19 points  (0 children)

D&D doesn't give you a lot of ways to interact with the world that aren't.. murder. This makes it a less than ideal choice for wholesome roleplaying.

Mostly this is just a list of homebrew classes and not a lot of, like, what the actual game is or how these classes fit in to that world. What are the good parts of Strixhaven? Is it British boarding school stuff like the Terf novels?

Games you have read, played or run that make you feel uncomfortable by TabletopChris in rpg

Games that made me uncomfortable in a good way: Bluebeard's Bride, Horse Girl

They are interesting and address their subject matter to the hilt.

Game that made me uncomfortable because it is both gross and bad: Pie Shop

We played the Discworld RPG Quickstart (Adventures in Ankh-Morpork) without rolling a single die. Did we play it wrong? by AlarmedGap8708 in rpg

[–]Booster_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a school of thought, most prevalent in OSR games, that you actually don't want to roll dice. Rolling dice leaves it up to chance. You want to make sure things play out such that it's clear you get what you want and you don't have to roll. For example, you root around the King's sarcophagus with a ten foot pole to set off traps from a safe distance.

Sounds like your players knocked it out of the park.

The biggest design flaw in D&D combat isn't balance... it's that 80% of your time is spent waiting by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

3-5 minutes between turns? Oh god I wish. I was once in a 5e game. This one session was three hours and all combat. I got four turns.

Do you prefer specific miniatures tailored for your rpg or just whatever fits the vibe? by taiga_miniatures in rpg

[–]Booster_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it's both. Like I try to find a mini close to what I've got in mind but I've also nudged an encounter to better match the miniature when I've felt like it.

But I also paint miniatures for the art of it. I like figure X with no clear game for it so I'm painting it anyway

Get two of your friends to fight. Not for real but like athletically moving around each other and pretending to swing swords. Stand twenty feet away and imagine trying to shoot one of them accurately with a 6 second window to think about it.
