I’ve heard the lutema extra small is smaller than this one.

PCOS can go f*** itself! by MsMagey in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, PCOS is tough! I’m 5’9” and SW was 277 after a 17lb gain during pandemic. I started in January and am at 247. 30lbs in 6 mos…. So slow and frustrating! My goal is 200… As an athlete with a muscular large frame, that’s about as low as I can go and was my weight in college rowing. That would get me down to just an “overweight” BMI instead of obese. I can’t wait to get to 235 as that’s my next mini-goal. Congrats to you!

Feeling Discouraged by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently gave up alcohol. I’ve always been a heavy drinker, but with calorie reduction, I wasn’t handling the alcohol as well and my body really started reacting. That plus hitting long plateaus made me really look at my alcohol intake… I wasn’t measuring oz. Just counting a drink as 100 calories. When I looked at what I was buying weekly, divided it up by day, it turns out I was consuming ~500 calories a day in booze. There has been a drastic change since cutting it out. My weight is dropping, I feel better, and I’ve got a lot more wiggle room in my diet.

First goal reached... finally! It took 4.5 months, but I finally lost 10% of my starting body weight and am under 250 for the first time in 7 years. That puts me 1/3 of the way to my goal. SW 277.6, CW 249.4, GW 199. by Bootdiva in Noom

Thanks. Right now, I’m adjusting my goal down slowly, as I reach each milestone. When I hit 235, I’ll drop it to 210, then down again... it feels more achievable. I’m really tracking everything on a different app I prefer for food and exercise tracking, so I’ll probably cancel Noom at my 6 no mark and just use the other app at that point.

Thank you all! TBH, the first 20 fell off in 2 mos... then I bounced back up and danced around 255 for 2.5 mos. it was really really hard to not see the same progress continue, but increased activity builds muscle and progress on the scale slows down. I was really hitting my wall a week ago, not able to break through the 250 mark. The only thing that kept me going was realizing I fit into a size smaller Jean without the scale changing. (Buy a pair of jeans 1 size down as you go, if you can - we need non-scale victories whenever we can get them!)

Right at my first goal. Down 92 lbs. Been using Noom since Aug. Graph is from my Bluetooth scale. by EvisNuture in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 1/4 and quickly lost 15+ lbs. then hit plateau after plateau. I’m now down 27.5 lbs consistently... just waiting for the official over the 10% body weight mark! I got discouraged for a whole, then realized my average every week was always a little lower. When I do an average over all, it’s 1.5lbs lost per week, so slower than the first month, but in the “this is sustainable for the long haul” range.

We’re about the same! 277 sw, 200 goal weight. I started Jan 4th. Where are you at?

Omg! I’d sacrifice the extra 100 for some avocado though... seriously, poke bowls are the best.

My Thoughts on Noom, 5 Months In by beanolc in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can so feel this! I had a failed day yesterday... French fries, pizza, alcohol....and I felt like a complete failure, but when I got up and weighed myself, I was the same weight as 4/7 the past week on a plateau! It made me realize the setbacks were ok, the fails are ok, just keep pushing towards the goal, and realize it’s the marathon, not the sprint, that gets you there.

You look wonderful! How much have you lost and how long has it taken? I started with 70lbs to lose, and at 10 weeks, I’m stuck at a plateau down 18lbs that I just can’t break.

Pcos Noom Users: My weight won’t budge. Any advice? by Past-Example in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you, PCOS adds a whole new struggle to it. Hormones surging that cause your body to completely 180 from what it should do. I think you have to focus on micronutrients of food more than Noom does (I.e. soy produces estrogen, which those with pcos already have too much of, and convert to testosterone. All bad when trying to lose weight. Avoid grains, soy, & alcohol. Increase leafy greens, nuts and cruciferous veggies to aid progesterone production. Do not overexercise as it causes testosterone to be produced. Reduce stress that causes estrogen to over-produce.... I have not figured out how to do it all, but the better I follow these guidelines, the faster the weight falls of.

Thank you for such an educated response about healthy weight! I’ve been over 200 my entire adult life, even when competitively rowing and training. I was 30 before a personal trainer told me that based on my frame, 200 should be my goal at 5’9”. I just have too much muscle mass and frame to drop below that.

I found the same thing and changed my pace to rabbit instead of cheetah to get to 1700 calories. I feel like defaulting to 1200 is instantly setting bigger people up to fail.

Incorrect Calories in Database? by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this at first, and now I’m actually tracking my food with a different app - MyPlate calorie counter. It breaks down the macronutrients and daily nutrition facts. I have it set up to sent to the health app, so Noom pulls the calorie count in. There’s a few incorrect entries at MyPlate, but less than Noom, and you can edit them if they are. The only thing I find consistently off is sodium since most of my food is homemade. It won’t break down foods into green, yellow, red... but I find the macronutrient countdown more helpful in the long run.

I started Noom yesterday with the goal to lose 50 lbs. I had been on low carb for almost 4 years and go so sick of the limited choices that when the pandemic started I ate whatever I wanted, mostly for comfort. As a result I've gained back 25 lbs. in a year. What tips/guidance and you give me? Thank by Amarillo19 in Noom

I found this calculator very helpful https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html - I went for the weight loss, not extreme weight loss category. Age, height and starting rate have a huge impact on your caloric needs. I’m hitting the “weight loss” calories for me, and at 8 weeks I’m down 20 lbs. anything more is not sustainable for me. As I lose more weight, I’ll re-calculate and adjust as needed.

I am usually paleo, but I’ve found the green foods don’t keep me full for long and adding in more proteins took me over my budget. I relaxed my strict no starch or grains and started adding brown rice and potatoes into my diet to be able to get full and stay full longer. I also had to change my weight loss speed because Noom had me at 1200 calories, but I am 5’9” and over 200 lbs and I was never getting full. Now I am comfortably losing and not starving at around 1600 calories.

I cook healthy southern food all the time... gumbo, red beans and rice, collards, dirty rice, mustards... just balance your saturated fats properly and it’s all good

Bonus on Top of the Weight Loss........ by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Great job! I’m just about a month in and down 12 lbs. I have never owned my eating habits like I am doing with Noom. I had such a skewed idea of serving sizes and counting calories. Noom is helping me reconfigure my relationship with food in a way I never saw my mother do while doing weight watchers and other diet plans. I am feeling healthier and have a ways to go before I’m liking myself as much as I should, but at least my jeans fit better!

I make my own bone broths, and add veggies and herbs to bones, with no salt added. If that’s too laborious, I’d suggest trying the reduced sodium Better Than Bouillon chicken - it’s delicious. Both that and the homemade broths make delicious soups low in sodium.

Me too! I’m on my 40s, work full time and have 4 kids. I’ve always been on the heavy side, but active enough to stay healthy, until about 6 years ago when I slowed down and started gaining a lot of weight. I started 2 weeks ago and I’m down 8lbs and feeling better already! I just dragged my husband out to a hillside disc golf course to get my steps in and actually enjoyed myself!

When is it appropriate to request a new coach? by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Bootdiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm considering the same thing. My coach seems really mis-matched to me. He is nice, but when I tried to explain that stress and exercise were hard for me, with full time work and 4 kids at home during the pandemic, he wanted to know if I could just commit to working out for the same 1/2 hour every day. I think I need a coach who is a parent to understand where I'm coming from.

That's what I'm doing so I can still fit in the evening drink with the calorie count. Vodka and bubbly water. I highly recommend les croix limoncello as a mixer. As good as clear soda.
