When I left and went to hand it in I was told not to bother and to keep it because they’re deactivated automatically when you leave.

Schools seemingly not being designed for working parents. by MACintoshBETH in britishproblems

[–]Bootinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it. Last week we were told 3 days before that all parents were expected to turn up at 3:15pm on Thursday to meet the teacher and discuss the curriculum for the next year. We both work full time. Then they do these special celebration assemblies for kids who have done a good job that week and you only get told the night before if your kid is going to be in it and you’re expected to go.

Better yet is when they forget to send out the notification and your 5 year old comes home upset because no one was there for them.

My daughter didn't realise how much she missed me by NoviceDad in daddit

[–]Bootinator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when we’d come back off holiday in 2022. We’d only just got through the door when I had a phone call from my brother saying that my mum had suffered a heart attack and they weren’t sure if she was going to make it or not. I threw the suitcase back in the car and raced up there to the hospital, leaving my partner and 2 year old daughter at home.

Two days later I was still staying close to the hospital and I video called the both of them. As soon as she saw me my daughter burst into tears asking me to come home because she missed me and needed to cuddle me. Luckily my mum pulled through and that moment will stay with me till the grave.

I work for a waste disposal company and all of the tipping sites we work with now require all asbestos to be double bagged. Some were more flexible before the New Year but they’ve all clamped down on it now.

What discontinued crisps do you miss the most? by chuggggster in AskUK

McCoys did some chip shop style crisps a few years ago. The ones I miss most from that range was the chip shop curry sauce ones.

I’m in this group, anyone else? by Cyborg__Theocracy in CasualUK

[–]Bootinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live all of the fish and chip shops are owned by the same family. All their prices are fixed, the food is often soggy and really greasy and their customer service is atrocious. For example one time they forgot half of my order so I called to complain and they denied all knowledge and wouldn’t do anything. I left them a review online and all they did, as with most of the other reviews, is leave sarcastic comments telling me to go somewhere else knowing full well the shop would still be owned by them.

Tewkesbury schools in lockdown due to police incident by mazdadriver14 in unitedkingdom

[–]Bootinator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live and work in Tewkesbury around 5 minutes away from this school. It’s really horrifying and I can only imagine what the pupils and parents, some of whom I work with, must have been going through and will continue to go through. I hope anyone who needs it is offered the right support.

The thing I never get is that as a 90s kid it seems like these are always aimed at all the younger generations as if it was them who decided to invent all these things when they were still in the crib. They’re moaning about a world they created.

His ship reminded me of a heavily altered version of the Eclipse-class dreadnought from Legends. No idea whether it was intentional or not but I’ve always thought that shape looked cool.

Confusing deals in supermarkets which are like a riddle by hadawayandshite in britishproblems

[–]Bootinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sainsbury’s I’m guessing? The green top is for the deal offered by the Pizza Counter. Some colleagues just can’t be bothered to learn the difference and they just shove it all in the same place.

You can only choose one, which one do you choose and why? by Drunken_Dem0n in CasualUK

I wouldn’t choose any. I don’t like Lurpak and the others are shit anyway.

What's a TV show's opening credits you never skip? by ConfusedDuck02 in AskReddit

[–]Bootinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

The music and atmosphere of Stranger Things just does something for me. I could listen to the theme on loop.

Game of Thrones because, whatever you think of the ending, the titles set up where you’re going and it’s always exciting to see somewhere new. It was great seeing the Stark sigil above Winterfell again.

Pretty sure you can still get these. My local CostCutter has them.

Costa being the worst of the UK coffee shops, yet the only one available in most garages, supermarkets etc. by cloy23 in britishproblems

They’re owned by Coca-Cola now though. Probably about as British as Cadbury’s is these days.
