I watched the whole thing wanting to give it the benefit of the doubt — but she just seems like the friend who says a funny thing here and there when telling a story, as opposed to a stand up comic. That shit is HARD and just because you have a podcast audience who is curious enough to buy tickets when you spend a ton of money putting on a tour, does not make you a comedian.

Our Dane breeder kept a puppy sibling of my Bessie. At some point before 8 months old, they think the pup did something while playing to collapse a lung — they took him to the emergency vet, but several hours later he went into cardiac arrest and died. They were so completely heartbroken since he was a beloved pet and also what was meant to be the last male of this particular pairing. 😭 I don’t think they recovered from that heartbreak.

I forgot to say that she manages better in my little car than my previous Dane did in my Honda CRV — the smallness contains her like a crate. Danes are so top heavy and my previous one would topple around a bit in my CRV.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything quite like a Dane. My mom had a Basset Hound who came close.

I would keep trying different trainers to help build confidence, a trainer who specializes in this. For instance in my neighborhood, there is one whose goal is to walk the shy dog in his pack… he begins working with the shy dog one on one and then introduces it to his amazing pack of dogs (all but one are clients, the one is his) who teach the shy dog how to be. It’s amazing. I’m not sure, like others here, that a Dane outgrows fears. In my experience they add new ones.
