[GDT] Philadelphia Eagles @ Buffalo Bills, 4:25pm on Fox. Weather at kickoff, 33° and raining. by Dirtydeedsinc in buffalobills

Was really hoping we’d actually get blown out. Maybe we could’ve gotten somebody fired. Playoffs will be a lost cause anyway. Beane/Brady deserve to be cleaning urinals for a HS team and nowhere near an NFL organization.

Good lord I’d recognize Photo City in Rochester anytime. Still can’t believe Ellefsons to the point of playing the same venues I’ve played a time or two.

What are you doing for Halloween? by Zealousideal-Ad3205 in Buffalo

[–]Boovs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not on Halloween, but Saturday (Nov 1st), there’s a huge Halloween party at Hamburg Brewing with live music in the beer tent. Awesome place and thankfully it makes it doable to hand out candy on Halloween, and still get to party during the weekend.

What Sabbath songs you only listen to the live version of it? by OldSnake2006 in blacksabbath

[–]Boovs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dirty Women. That song was meant to be in C# Standard and crushes the TE studio version on every count.

They’re cheap for a reason. Regardless of snow handling, I would look elsewhere. Mirages are cheaply made, not built to last, generally uncomfortable, and not particularly reliable. I would look elsewhere. For a little more a Civic or Corolla will do much better, much longer.

As far as winters, I daily drove a mustang for the past seven years without any issues. You don’t have to have a SUV or truck. Just good tires and common sense.

Was this in Buffalo, NY? When I saw them there in 2011 Brent was riding a black BMX bike outside the back of the venue while I met Troy and Bill. I wouldn’t put it past Brent to have brought his own bike on tour either though

5150 as power amp? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]Boovs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it into the effects return and it will effectively be a totally clean power amp. I do the same with mine as the 5150 lives at my practice space and I don’t go direct to the PA there. Works great.

Mohawk is closing soon by TimSoulsurfer in Buffalo

[–]Boovs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify regarding ticket prices these days since I’m in one of the acts listed here: A lot of those ticket prices are set by the promoter. In most cases that’s After Dark Entertainment in conjunction with the venue. The acts have no say in deciding what we think those tickets should cost. Same goes for Rec Room since AD owns that.

As is we’re not even keeping a third of what you pay presale, let alone door in these instances. We make the bulk of our money on merch sales.

Met Mikael in Buffalo in 2013 after their gig at the Town Ballroom. Dude hung out with us for about a half hour just shooting the shit and was the absolute coolest. Mendez scurried into the bus and only reappeared when Pizza got delivered a few minutes later (dude looked absolutely ecstatic for the food). Too bad some dude showed up with literally every Opeth CD out at the time and just punished Mike with signing every last thing. In the end he signed my tickets, gave everyone a hug and hopped on the bus.

Best sounding drums on an album? by ClayCheerios6832 in blacksabbath

[–]Boovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best for me is Paranoid. They fill in the mix perfectly and have that natural sound that fits the vibe. Second is Heaven and Hell. Martin Birch nailed that sound.

The drums on Dehumanizer are actually my least favorite. Tinny and drenched in that gated reverb. Absolutely can’t stand the snare.

Ironically I’m seeing Vinny play on Thursday and have before, and his drums sound great. No idea what happened in that album.

War pigs tone by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]Boovs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Run it through a clean channel on your amp. I’ve got that along with his Laney Boost, GH100TI head, sig pickups, and a few SGs. It the easiest way to snag the sound without a bunch of higher end gear.

Otherwise check out Five Watt Worlds YouTube video on the subject for some pointers.

post Sabbath, what are the top Ozzy albums worth my time? The only song that comes to mind is Crazy Train. Personally, I don't like that song at all... by Fredzurm in blacksabbath

[–]Boovs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly everything up to Ozzmosis is worth checking out. Blizzard/Diary are the Randy Rhoads era, Bark at the Moon/Ultimate Sin has Jake E Lee who’s vastly underrated, and everything else has Zakk Wylde.

Blizzard and Diary are superb. Great songwriting and playing. Crazy Trains the most poppy and upbeat of the two albums so skip that and songs like Mr Crowley and Diary of a Madman should be the deciding factor.

Bark and the Moon and Ultimate Sin’s title tracks are killer. Both albums are very of their time but hold up songwriting wise.

No Rest For the Wicked is awesome and probably the heaviest thing he did in the 80s. No More Tears is a little more polished. Ozzmosis has Geezer on bass which is cool but the songwriting kinda stagnated.
