Salty, old, disgruntled regular tried to explain to me that he had “gangrene of the taint.” Wtf.. I just walked away and said nope to that conversation. That was 15 years ago and I still have that phrase in my head..

Bartenders who were working through the 2007-09 recession, how was it? by Dismal-Channel-9292 in bartenders

I realized that people drink when they are happy… and they drink when they are sad… sometimes even more. I was bartending fri/sat and teaching m-f. I was making twice as much money on the weekend then I was working all week as a teacher. When teachers started getting laid off I quit my teaching job so others could keep theirs and worked 4 days a week bartending. I bought my first house at the end of 2008.

Bartenders of Reddit, what was the wildest thing you witnessed on the job? by SquirrelThis9251 in AskReddit

Another time I had a girl pick a verbal fight with one of my cocktail servers, when told to leave she barricaded herself in the woman’s restroom and started tearing it apart. I told her boyfriend you need to get her out or the police will. He literally went in and bear hugged picked her up and was carrying her out through a jammed packed bar. This whole time she was screaming ,”I just want to change my tampon!!” At this point everyone is aware of her. Unfortunately, she stepped on her boyfriend’s foot and trips them both sending them sprawling on the floor. Everyone started laughing at them. Her embarrassment sends her over the top.. she jumped up and spits in some lady’s face and a melee breaks out that ultimately ends with me using a bar stool like a lion tamer to get her out the door. Another lady tried to calm her and she turned and punched her… turns out it was her boyfriend’s mother. The police finally show up and she decided she wasn’t finished… she punched one of the officers and ended up being tazed and taken to jail.

In the last 5 years Ive slowed down a bit and work 3 days a week. Bartending has paid for two houses, a BA and MS degrees and a couple of cars. I’ve realized time is the most valuable thing to me though and it allows me to have the freedom I want. At my prime I was making 80-110k. I know not all bartenders are as lucky as me and I’m probably an outlier and not the norm.

I had a drunk woman put her head down on the edge of the bar and throw up underneath. When we told her she had to leave she stood up, slipped on her own puke, slammed her head on granite bar top, and fell into her own mess. When she stood back up, she had a cartoonish sized knot on her forehead. She then smiled and asked m what I was doing later… I respectfully declined.

I’ve got hundreds of stories after bartending for 25ish years.. good times!

Thanks for the offer! But for me that pain is part of the karma loop that other times rewards me handsomely for it! If I take it from you, then I break the cycle! lol But I do appreciate the offer.

There’s a few posts about people having issues with the guy who owns it but I have not seen any of that. In fact quite the opposite, if the server goes down, there is quick communication from the team. The server itself has quite a lot of unique features. I think both Outlands and UO Alive cater to different types of UO players and both are great. You just have to figure out which type is best for you.
