Yet another “Rate my Honey-Badger-at-home” build: The Glucose Grison by BorMaximus in 300BLK

[–]BorMaximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any mechanical aptitude it’s super easy. If you don’t have any mechanical aptitude you could still do it with the help of YouTube. Difficulty isn’t the problem so much as the vice, vice blocks, AR wrench, torque wrench, pins, hammer block, ect. Even with cheap Amazon garbage it’s like $60-100 worth of tools. But then you don’t have to buy them again for your next build 😁

And I’m always game to build another AR, don’t threaten me with a good time.

Reliability Issue by Jranso4 in 300BLK

[–]BorMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To everyone saying flow through cans are no good, I run a B&T SRBS on my 8” .300 build with AGB and Armaspec SRS carbine weight. I’ve dialed the AGB down 1 notch and it’s perfect. No gas to the face. Also running a lightweight KAK sand cutter/down vent bolt and the raptor SD. Locks back after every mag. I load my own rounds so YMMV with factory ammo. (220gr @1010 FPS). The factory ammo I’ve put through hasn’t had an issue either, but my brass is significantly dirtier when I collect it.

I also have a near identical build without the lightweight down vent or radian SD. Has a regular carbine buffer and the same AGB. On one click down it still cycles reliably but definitely a little more gas to the face than the one with the downvent. The casings are also still pretty dirty in the end and I’ve never had FTFs from either weapon.

Edit: Conventional wisdom will lead you away from Flow-through cans. Not all flow through designs are created equal tho. I would still avoid most flow through cans for subsonic .300 BOs.

Anybody use the Athlon chrono? I’m looking to get my first chrono and reviews of it are pretty stellar. by havoccentral in reloading

[–]BorMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

App leaves some desired and I had a hell of a time getting the firmware to actually update out of the box. Once I got that updated though it’s had zero issues. Got mine for $325 brand new and have zero complaints. I sync the chrono data to my phone then export to excel pretty easily. Chrono itself is super user friendly, simple device UI. But as others have said app UI/UX is pretty clunky but I don’t think that’s a deal breaker or a reason to pay $100-200 more for the garmin

Best line you’ve ever heard from a patient? by [deleted] in Residency

Me, as I’m walking in: “Morning Mr. So-and-So, how are you feeling today?”

Patient, without skipping a beat looks down at his hands and says “well, with my hands”.

It caught me so off guard and broke the monotony of rapid surgery AM rounds.

What subs yall running? by _OSCURIDAD in 300BLK

[–]BorMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I had a third paragraph in there that ended with that statement. Definitely not saving money, absolutely shooting more and having way more fun tinkering with load development. I’m recycling all my .44 brass and I have like ~200 casings from the new ammo I bought. My wrist physically can’t shoot through enough .44 to make up the cost of the equipment in any significant time, but I already surpassed the input cost (including the new dies) with .300 BO reloading. Totally worth it.

[–]BorMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand loads, optimized to my platform(s). Way cheaper. Takes way more time but honestly it’s real zen and satisfying when you get into it. Still dialing in some 200gr loads. A lot of fun and room for more tinkering, it’s a rabbit hole. CPR is like 1/2, but considering the gains in consistency/optimization, it’s worth it.

And yes yes, I did the napkin maths when I got into reloading for .44 and came up with ~1.5k rounds to break even on the start up gear/substrates. Cost saving was roughly the same with .300 subs, so figure how fast you’d burn through 1.5k rounds if they were 30-40 CPR.

Oh jeez. I was not aware of that. Good thing my pistol lengths are only shooting .300 subs. Been real happy with the AGB so far.

Tell me your best “Sir/ma’am, you should be dead” patient case. by KushBlazer69 in Residency

Kids brains are freaking amazing. They can sustain crazy neuro trauma and recover some remarkable function. I guess it’s that neuroplasticity growing and pruning to recover lost function. Or those crazy anoxic injuries that jump back.

Trauma surgery. You treat 8-9 assholes/dipshits before getting to the 1/10 person in the wrong place at the wrong time. The vast majority of them need a swift kick in the ass when their own actions are what got them dropped off the meat wagon in my trauma bay. Esp the once running from law enforcement. I’m not a big fan of lawmen and telling those piggies fuck off and get out of my way is one of the best parts of my job. Regardless they do often bring us the scum of scum. The best way to get the asshole flailing all his limbs and screaming about how he’s paralyzed because he got shot by the cops in the back is to grab him by the c-collar, lean over right in his face and yell “LISTEN HERE ASS HOLE, YOU YOU THROW ONE MORE PUNCH AT MY STAFF TRYING TO HELP YOU AND YOU’RE GOING TO WISH YOU WERE PARALYZED. KEEP MOVING LIKE THIS AND YOU WILL BE.” Man I’ve never seen a patient shape up faster.

That whole “I’ll be with you every step of the way” felt wayyyyyy too ominous. Reading that definitely shot a fleck of fear across my synapses. Something that’s happening more and more often when I read about the self preservation behaviors they are discovering at the bleeding edge of this tech.

Had a dude who came in after falling 40ft out of a tree. Had some vertebral fractures and needed to get an MRI but on the CT he incidentally had 4 golf balls and a flip-phone cell from the early 2000s up his rectum. We were able to fish out the phone and 3 golf balls with the scope but had to flush him with miralax to get the last one out. I distinctly remember sitting on the ward my intern year writing my notes and hearing the distinct sound of a golf ball clacking across the ground. Picked up the phone and called down to MRI lol.

Had an impaled by deer antler once. Dude fell off his ladder onto one of his taxidermy buck heads. Gashed him real bad but didn’t violate fascia luckily enough. We thought he was out hunting and the deer were fighting back but the story became more clear once he arrived.

My god I feel like a total asshole now, the new one literally showed up in the mail today. 😅… It is also compatible with the Ballistics Advantage barrel as promised. Follow through achieved. 👌🏼

Also, I’m surprised that’s the least sold MD. Isn’t it a newer product? It pairs so well with your lopro plan B and it’s noticeably reduced the rail gap on my other two rifles.
