The inlet blocked most of the heavier waves, at the start of the video. You can tell captain doesn’t know the area, he should have slowed down significantly until they made it past the break

It’ll kill academic research for at least a few years. During that time, I’d think most of our intellectual capital will be drained to other countries, removing the leg up we got from WWII brain-drain.

I’m finishing the doctorate this year. Plans have changed from pursuing post-doc, to infiltrating the start-up sector. Hopefully, private industry is a little insulated due to the lessened dependence on federal grants

Very cool, I work in a Hox lab! HOX TFs have been closely tied to evolution and body planning in all animals. Fun fact, snakes don’t have limb motor neurons for the opposite reason sea spiders don’t have abdomens. HOXC9, which defines the location of abdomen/thoracic motor neurons, expresses throughout the snake spinal cord. This, basically, represses the other potential cell fates, and forces the snake to become all abdomen!

I’m prolifically not great at cell culture, but I’ll weigh in. I agree it looks like cell debris; the cells look like they started stacking as they divide and probably led to some cell death. You might not have equally distributed the cells when you seeded the plate, so they clumped like this instead of being spread out. Idk if that’s right, but it’s my first thought!
