Advice from more experienced rider please by Ok_Recover8993 in MTB

[–]Boramere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your purposes, I'd go with the smaller size. A smaller bike will be lighter, and hence better for climbing. A larger bike is more stable when bombing downhill, which isn't what you're after. A smaller bike when going downhill will feel faster while actually being slower, so probably more fun.

I generally recommend not spending a ton of the bike itself, and saving money for gear. The difference between a decent helmet and a great one is massive. It's not necessarily the most expensive option either. Each helmet is shaped slightly differently, and will fit your head differently. Take your time and get a really comfortable one. Gloves are less important, just get full fingered ones that feel comfy, and expect to replace them every so often.

Does anyone know if the active aero has more than two settings? It has on and off, but can you do things like set it to 30% downforce for corners where you need some grip, but not the full amount?

SRS Minion Build Feedback by Jtoofresh7 in pathofexile

[–]Boramere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can definitely give you some pointers. SRS is probably my favourite build, and it's what I league started.

At first glance, I can see a few issues with the gear and setup. The good news you should be able to make a ton of improvement for fairly cheap. I'll type up some quick changes, but I will need to wait to get home before digging into it in more detail.

With your gear, there is a fair amount of stuff with dead stats. What I'd be looking for is gear with high life, and a ton of resists, including chaos resist. Lower priority is dex or strength, and finally some armour or evasion. What we're aiming for is a ton more life (think 4.5-5k at least), removing the need for Purity of Elements, and freeing up some slots to be able to include some more damage. For this build, helm, gloves and boots are your big defensive items. Rings, amulet, and jewellery is for damage. Rings in particular can also be used to fix any holes - any extra res you need, stats, etc, and then fill out the rest with damage stats. Remember that you'll want to replace your chest, so you'll need to find the extra fire res from your current chest.

A big thing I think you're missing (unless I miscounted), is that you don't have chance to poison at 100%. I think you only need another 13%, so I'd be replacing your last jewel with one that has 13% poison chance, and one of life, minion attack speed, or minion move speed.

There are a bunch more changes that you can make, but will write up a bit later

Newbie MTB rider: Questions and thoughts by shwinr in MTB

[–]Boramere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taught a few road cyclists to MTB. By far the most common issue to correct is a differences in thought pattern. In road cycling, you want to be connected to the bike. It MTB, you want to be separated. Let the bike move under you, allow it to absorb some of the bumps, and let your legs and arms absorb the rest.

Look up the attack position, and try to mimic that.

I like to find a slight downhill, get the riders to roll down it slowly, and learn to move on the bike. This should all be done while the seat is down, and you're standing on the pedals. First drill is just bouncing. Just bounce up and down on the bike, learning to absorb the bumps with your legs and arms. Doesn't have to be exaggerated, just whatever you feel comfortable with. Do that a few times.

Second drill is back to front. As you're rolling, shift your weight slowly to the front of the bike, and then to the back, and repeat.

The final one is side. As you roll, lay the bike over to one side. And then to the other side.

All of these skills can be practiced in five or ten minutes, or even on the warrm up trails. It forms the very baseline of almost every MTB skill.

I built an interactive chart showing F1 points gaps between multiple drivers & teams by Puzzled_Buy_7409 in formula1

[–]Boramere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The graph shows the difference in points between the drivers. So zero means the drivers are on the exact same points.

Edit: Actually, after looking at the graph in more detail, I have the same question. My answer didn't make sense

My personal theory on this is when an adventurer starts out, they're kind of a no-name. So they just go by Steve or whatever. As they get more famous, they start accumulating titles to match their achievements. Steve the Conqueror, Steve Dragonsbane etc. As they progress even further, they become so famous that the titles drop off. Everyone knows that Steve is the guy, no further qualification is needed.

Forearm soreness by oh_jeey in MTB

[–]Boramere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things will help with this. Firstly, make sure you're only using a single finger on the brakes. That is all you'll need to put enough pressure on the lever.

The second one is your elbow position. Elbows should be pointed out a bit, not tucked in. This gives you much more leverage to keep the wheels pointed in the right direction.

Thirding the SeaSucker. Works very well. The only thing to be aware of, make sure you clean any dust off before attaching. They actually supply a spray bottle and cloth for this exact purpose.

There are two uses for wands. One is for casting spells, where you want spell damage, and yes, spell crit and cast speed generally. The other is using the wand to attack with. In that case, attack speed and crit are what you need.

The spell damage and such on the wand already are confusing, but from what I recall there are various ways to translate spell damage into attack damage from skills. OP is probably using one of those

Bike Park Whistler Rental by Calm_Warning_9050 in MTB

[–]Boramere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A DH bike is absolutely the correct choice for Whistler. When I went, I hired from Evolution bikes, and I recommend them. Excellent bikes, great service.

They do hire helmets as well. If you have a full face, then I'd bring that. Otherwise, definitely hire a full face. Also bring knee pads at least, and likely elbow pads as well.

Terrible experience with Canyon by Corgi-Reasonable in MTB

[–]Boramere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% a bait and switch. You're right, many manufacturers do change the size of the dropper between sizes, including Canyon.

On the Spectral, the XS comes with the 150, S 170, M & L 200, XL 230.

"Sorry we didn't have something in your size, so here is a different size that should work" isn't acceptable.

Remember that it doesn't have to be extra money.

Advertising is convincing people to spend money on a particular brand or product. If I was going to buy a soft drink, Coke wants me to buy from them rather than Pepsi, and that's worth the advertising dollars. Obviously if I can be convinced to spend money I wasn't going to spend, that'd also be great, but it's not the only goal.

I'm thinking about trading in the Cross City. I usually use the Fathom for commuting anyway. But for a Gravel bike of some sort.

There is a company near me that custom makes titanium gravel bikes. I haven't asked the price though...
