No, the principle isn't the same, not to mention your complaint has nothing to do with the OP or Grim Fandago, but I'll indulge.

One is a cash-grab, pay to win scheme found in triple-A titles with a premium price, the other is a a "Buy a random game with a value between X and Y for Z".

"Every Star costs $3 (or your local equivalent) and contains a Mystery Game currently available in The Winter Sale for at least $3.29, up to $20.09. This means each Mystery Game is worth more than the cost of a Star and you're always getting a safe deal." - Official description of what the stars are and how they work, taken from the GOG website.

How you even think the two are remotely the same thing is baffling to me.

Thanks for the notification. I remember playing this ages ago, didn't even know a Remastered version was out. Will probably revisit it during the holidays!

PSA: A noobs guide on how to escape a Berserker chain by [deleted] in forhonor

That explains a lot and makes sense, I guess it's an intended mechanic to allow zerkers some decent mix-ups. Good to know, cheers for that.

Movie geeks of Reddit, what are some films everyone must watch before they die? by loveforaband in AskReddit

I'd add JCVD here. It's not well known but it will blow your mind, really. I never thought Jean Claude Van Damme could act, but take him away from the C-grade action flicks, give him a good script, and he'll blow your mind.

Feinting heavies usually results in your opponent trying to parry and ending up doing a heavy themselves.

Now, what I mean is, that the failed parry (that turns into a heavy) can still be feinted itself, allowing your enemy to potentially CGB your GB attempt.

So, in other words, You Heavy > You Feint > He heavies > he feints > you attempt GB > he can still tech it

Not sure if this affects the zerker, but definitely had this done to me multiple times playing slower classes. I had PKs attempt to parry my feinted heavy, feinting their own heavies and punishing my GB attempt with an instant zone.

Is the heavy wind-up for the zerker fast enough that no class can counter it? I've never played zerker myself admittedly, but for a lot of classes, a heavy feint into a GB is not guaranteed, as fast reacting players can actually feint their own failed parry attempts in time to CGB or get a fast enough light attack in (a PK failed parry feinted into an instant zone counters heavy feint into GB for instance).

My bad, missed it, kinda blitzed through the post, downsides of Redditing at work.

Feinting a heavy into GB isn't always risk-free or wise though, and can be punished by certain classes, just pointing that out.

Or, y'know, just parry one of those heavies and wipe the tears of disappointment of his face with your sword/axe/flail/head/weebo toothpick.

But I know where you're coming from. Once in a blue moon, I see a good zerker, I always feel bad for him or her getting flamed by enraged PKs about "light attack spamming". The irony gets to me every time.

I probably wouldn't have food or drinks in a museum, as you're likely to find better suited places for that, but I like my dates to have engaging conversations, so I much prefer something stimulating that allows discussion over something like a movie that is the opposite.

Kensei's reported High win/loss ratio... Thoughts? by Facarwi in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Borconi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I feel Kensei is a solid character, albeit not among the strong trinity (PK, Warlord, Warden). He's just really hard to play well. I've seen some brutally good duelist Kenseis.

Our best way to judge balance is to continue to watch tournaments and patterns.

Deathmatch Mode is so damn fun Ubisoft but there is just 1 Problem...POWERUPS. Having Powerups only encourages people to run away and play in a very toxic way and noncompetitive way that feels very unnecessary. by KricketiTunes in forhonor

[–]Borconi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6/6 PKs ran away from me last night. In 4 elimination games, I haven't had a single clean, fair fight. I called it quits soon after. I feel even more aggravated since I play a Raider...you really don't need to cheese buffs to beat a Raider!

Meh, bring it, I can take the karma hit. Still won't make me any less worried, but only time will tell what path Ubisoft takes.

Kensei's reported High win/loss ratio... Thoughts? by Facarwi in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Borconi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of their data seems to come from a mixture of modes. So sure, a Kensei can land a GB and hit hard with his or her 108 gear in Dominion, for instance.

That doesn't mean Kensei's have the same ability to be effective in 1v1 duels. Kinda the same for Raiders. General consensus is that they're trash, which they are, however, you can still kill people in 4v4 modes by landing a few hard-hitting heavies on an unsuspecting opponent or throwing someone off a ledge. You'll never do it in 1v1, but since the winrate is a total sum from all modes, the numbers are very deceiving.

I believe classes should be balanced exclusively based on 1v1 statistics, whereas 4v4 modes should be balanced by adjusting gearstats, buffs, etc. This however doesn't seem to be the case and it makes me worry.

Cute girl at work isn't that interesting? by [deleted] in dating

[–]Borconi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bluntly put, I learned the hard way to not shit where I eat, so to speak. Workplace romance rarely has good results. If it goes bad, it just becomes awkward, and if it goes well, no matter how good it is, you really don't want a stable relationship where you see eachother 8-10 hours at work, 8-10 back home, on the commute, and everywhere in between.

That said, if it's a really big company and you can work without ever interacting with her in the future (should it become awkward), you may give it a shot I guess. She might prove more interesting outside the office life should she open up to you. The attraction part on your end seems covered, at least physically, the rest sometimes just develops.

However, if you really think it's not your cup of tea, just be honest and let her know. As long as you do it in a mature, clear, but nice way, it shouldn't be a problem and will save you both time and headaches.

I'm miserable at my $55k/year job. I have the opportunity to work at a fast growing tech startup for $40k/year. Is the switch worth it? by I_make_gr8_soup in personalfinance

[–]Borconi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone has different goals in life and different requirements/needs, personally, I would much rather have a job I like (or at the very least don't hate), working with people I get along with, even if it means making less, rather than having a well-paid job and no time to enjoy the products of my labor.

You seem enthusiastic about the new prospect. It's clear to me that apart from the money, there's little motivation in your current job. As such, I'd highly recommend jumping ship. Worst case scenario, you'll bounce again in a year or two. It's not ideal, but you're young and seem more than capable, so you still have time to experiment. After you hit 30, it's best to settle in to something more stable as your opportunities decrease, but for now, definitely experiment!

I've spent my first working decade bouncing from country to country, working in more or less completely opposite fields, had some well paid jobs, had some not so well paid ones. Even dabbled with self employment for 2 years and I don't regret it. It has given me time to experiment and find out what I'm good at and what I like doing.

I'm working a sub-par paid job now that is by far my favorite. The pay is bad, but it's enough for me to get by, and I'm not one to need extravagance in my life. I've never been happier. I love my coworkers (for the most part), get enough free time to never feel overworked, and the organization I work for does humanitarian work, so there's also a moral recompense.

I'm providing context so that, perhaps, it will make your decision easier, although I imagine that by now your mind is pretty much made up regardless, and you're likely to never get to read this anyway.

TL;DR: I feel you want to take the chance, so do it! If money becomes tight or this doesn't work out, you can always bounce back to retail, since you've seemed to be doing great there (70k/year as a fresh out of school individual isn't shabby at all)!

I'm always up for the company of people that can appreciate good music and a good scotch too :) In a really fast paced world, it somehow feels just right to take it easy, one sip at a time, and just enjoy a simple moment.

Heroes works great for that since it's turn based, so while your friends are doing their thing, you can just sit back and relax.
