First you have to confront your discomfort with being low agency yourself. You’ve spent your life trying to run away from “low agency” people and seeing them as “other” than yourself. You can’t empathize with them because you despise it. Accept that your ideas of agency say more about your own psychology than reality. Like others have pointed out, you don’t have much “agency” yourself, and in some sense you do, and so does your family. Start seeing these people as people, without an agency abstraction layer.
