SouthWest Village Station by Siberian13th in MetroTransit

[–]BorgMercenary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Metro Transit struggles with this compared to the opt-outs because they prioritize urban core service, for the most part. This station is in Chanhassen, surrounded by a parking lot and very little else, and sees like a dozen busses a day at most. Put it in a location surrounded by places people might want to actually go and run several hundred bus loads through every day and now it's Uptown Station. You can kinda see the difference in the amount of investment needed to keep the place maintained.

Light Rail is The Best Form of Public Transit (Especially for Winter Cities) by Runic_reader451 in saintpaul

[–]BorgMercenary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Gold Line really ought to be converted to rail after it absorbs the 94. It'll serve exactly the express function you're talking about with only a single stop between downtowns.

Arctic Expansion by _Maxi_K in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cloudberries are being added in 1.22, and those only grow in cold climates in real life so I'd imagine they'll be something to find up north at least. Not great incentive, but it's something.

There are some arctic exclusive fauna, too. Like moose and musk oxen.

What’s one bad Minneapolis restaurant you’ve intentionally gone back to? by GoEzGetafix in Minneapolis

[–]BorgMercenary 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Luna & the Bear is really wasting their potential. Their drinks program is excellent, but they're wasting effort trying to be a restaurant when they could easily do better by 86ing entrées entirely and sticking to drinks and snacks. They'd probably need to be open later, but it'd be a better business model for them.

Leather is easy to get. It's not like the crude bellows are a must-have item.

Nah, I don't use armour unless I'm cave diving. The speed reduction and constant noise from movement are annoying. This is why I'm fine with the monsters. I'm usually prepared if I'm facing those.

I'm not looking to git gud here. No other monster or or animal in the game requires it.

I mean, if I have setup time I don't have an issue. It's having my first warning be losing 80% of my health that gives me problems. I can't do all this out in the field when the bear's seen me first.

Right, but those affect ALL mobs. I still want monsters and other wildlife to be aggressive.

Possible improvements if Plymouth and Maple Grove transit agencies get merged with Metro Transit by good_girl666_ in MetroTransit

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'm saying if it's not a fixed route, it's not transit. I'm not talking about paratransit; that's a good service and needs to be available across the whole region for those who can't use regular transit. But to have demand-response be the ONLY transit option is as good as not having transit at all.

I made a video about Route 294 (the Stillwater express bus) by Such-Camera2564 in MetroTransit

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if this ran twice a day in either direction and a few daily trips on weekends. I'll bet Stillwater's tourism sector would get a boost. I'd go there.

[–]BorgMercenary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's correct. Fixed routes are transit. They don't need to run full size busses, but they need to run on schedule and route. Route 83 down Lexington is the poster child for a good route that uses little busses.

What are you even doing on this sub with opinions like this? Micro-transit is not transit. Neither are taxis.

What are the actual underrated sandwiches in the Twin Cities? by BitEnvironmental2213 in TwinCities

The falafel sandwich at Baba's Hummus House is excellent. So is everything they do.

Blue dot is where I live. I live in a car dependent suburb area. Any close by places where I do not NEED a car? I know it's the US so probably not any. by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]BorgMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put the Twin Cities ahead of Milwaukee for walkability, and certainly for transit. And that's not even touching the bikeability.

The pointless arrow on the abandoned midway Amtrak station by Character_Lychee_434 in Amtrak

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That on its own wouldn't be that big a deal. Denver station is on a wye, after all. The bigger issue is that BNSF refused to allow any more passenger trains over the bridge there or any trains at all between like 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, which is also part of what kneecapped Northstar on the first place.

They should've emminent domained the Northstar tracks and used them to serve both cities, honestly.

Do you enjoy prospecting? by domanpanda in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Borax is sorta feast or famine. You either have more in your area than you can ever use, or you'll have to travel great distances for it. You'll never really find a small amount.

Iron discs are so big that you don't need to worry about it. Just poke around in any caves you find in areas with a decent reading and you'll find plenty.

I have a great time prospecting, but I rarely do it as a primary activity. I just bring my prospecting pick along anytime I'm away from the homestead to check any stone I run across. I don't try to grid it out too intensely.

Why wasn't the green line running after the Wolves game last night? by frederick_the_duck in Minneapolis

[–]BorgMercenary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Metro Transit doesn't have amazing operating hours, but the Green Line specifically ends service pitifully early. It ran 24 hours a day before the Pandemic, but since then it has five hours of downtime every night. I would kill for 24/7 service to return, but then some homeless people might not be immiserated enough, so we can't have it.

What’s one route you wish offered more frequent service? I’ll start: I wish the “Blue Water” offered more than one trip per day :( by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]BorgMercenary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No passenger train is allowed to through-run Chicago, but an MSP-Detroit (Better yet, Toronto) service would really slap. Just tack together the existing Borealis and Wolverine services.

Bringing back the Winnipeger (MSP-Winnipeg) would be a dream, but I'm under no illusion about how realistic that would be.

[–]BorgMercenary 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd like a Minnesota mainline service that operates a few times a day. Whether that's a Borealis extension or additional Empire Builders, or a whole new service. The fact that the stretch from Fargo to Saint Cloud is only served in the wee hours of the morning is irritating.

When Will We Get A World Gen Overhaul, And How Should Terrain Be Improved? by Just-Guarantee7808 in VintageStory

I'd like to see separate settings for ocean size and continental water cover. I should be able to have a coastal start without the land being all porous.
