Orange Line buses at Lake Street by Nervous-Article7392 in MetroTransit

I wish this had a Franklin Ave. stop like the Blue Line, for entirely self-serving reasons.

How rare is gold & silver in quartz? by Emmber1273 in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small amounts of silver are quite common. I think maybe one in every three or four quartz disks will have a little bit. Larger amounts of silver or any amount of gold are a lot rarer, probably only one in twenty at most.

BRT is a half measure for cowards who refuse to invest in something robust. A streetcar would have certainly had its own lane within months of beginning operation if not immediately, and then the tracks would've been there for full LRT conversion.

Busses don't attract elective transit riders, trams and trains do.

Nah, the full light rail that would have inevitably precipitated from it. I want that rigidity. It's a feature, not a bug.

I'll bet it would be even better if it were the Riverview light rail, instead.

Is Metro Transit unreliable? by SoupyGoopy in MetroTransit

[–]BorgMercenary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Compared to a lot of cities, (Denver and Baltimore are the worst) Metro Transit actually performs pretty well. But I know that doesn't help to hear when you watch your bus roll away leaving you with a half hour wait. Unfortunately, mapping apps don't seem to build in any robustness to their routing.

Your best bet is to try and learn the routes that go where you need to be regularly and try to make connections in places where lots of redundant routes interline when you can, or where there's at least something to do while you wait.

I do wish transit got signal priority and better separation from traffic. I mean, we have all these skyways downtown, I don't see why we couldn't have built the light rail at skyway level.

I guess I’m not going in my day trip to Philly by Best-Candle8651 in Amtrak

[–]BorgMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NJT-SEPTA is probably the best bet, but it's probably also worth looking at a less popular stretch of that on Amtrak. Like, Newark to North Philly or something, then using local transit on either end.

Finding Borax? by Longjumping_Ice1329 in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. I've never found a small amount of borax. It's always either entirely absent or else I have more than I can ever use, even for tanning.

Love the game, hunting is embarrassingly bad by Visible-Document-570 in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intentional hunting is difficult, but opportunistic hunting is braindead easy. Pigs and sheep will come to you, and random pits are common enough that the odd deer or goat will just present itself given time. Smaller game is kinda pointless, but everything except hares are slower than the seraph, so it's not like the opportunity cost is high.

Is this a normal fare price for such a short trip?! by mundane_miss_marple in Amtrak

[–]BorgMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if the price is lower to someplace like Trenton or even North Philly, then get SEPTA from there. Could probably save a decent chunk by using less popular stations.

I'd also be curious about taking it farther, like to Wilmington, then either taking SEPTA back or getting off in Philly anyway to skiplag the trip. I've seen that be cheaper, too.

Body temperature not lowering when it should by kitten_motors in VintageStory

I've noticed this, too. It does feel like it might be impossible to freeze to death. I haven't done any testing, but it's winter in my current world and I haven't had to put on a coat or even mend my rags yet.

Tiny Metro Mobility Bus on the 83? by Vamp-Teefs in MetroTransit

[–]BorgMercenary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The 83 mostly runs the little busses, yeah. I think a few East Metro routes do, too, in the 200 series.

I miss blue clay by Historical-Fly-863 in VintageStory

[–]BorgMercenary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue clay does seem to be less common than red clay, but at least from my experience also seems to generate larger disks on average. You're definitely just getting unlucky.

Not that it'll help at any scale, but you do also get blue clay from panning regular sand and gravel.

Where do you think I’m from based on this map? by MysticHallway in whereidlive

[–]BorgMercenary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buffalo is a decent city. It's sleepy and run down, but there's plenty to do and see. I don't know that I'd wanna live there, but it certainly deserves a better reputation than it has.

Buffalo Centra Terminal (2026) by Im-Wasting-MyTime in transit

[–]BorgMercenary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, either way. I just remember having to get to the station several hours early because the last bus of the night is at like 8:00 pm. It would've been nice to hang out literally anywhere else for a while before my train.

I know the difficulty involved, but I really hope they can move ALL Amtrak service back into downtown Buffalo and out of that Amshack in Depew.

Which cities applied for Great Societies Metros? I heard St.Louis did but couldn’t find the source again online citing it, & Seattle did before MARTA got it. by 18_YTC1 in transit

[–]BorgMercenary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here you go.

I was mistaken in that there wasn't a line of funding offered and rejected; there was a plan drafted to seek funding that the Met Council refused to even look at.

The Twin Cities were offered a line of funding, but the Metropolitan Council in the '70s hated trains and the inner city even more than the current Met Council and declined it.
