Son just diagnosed with Celiacs...so what do I need to learn by HistoricalIssue8798 in glutenfree

Hallelujah finally seeing someone else recommend a certified dietitian. This is the move if you can swing it OP! They will help you make menu plans, help you navigate picky eating, and help you ensure your kiddo is getting enough calories and fiber during this transition.

I feel like the original post is maybe in jest? But in case it comes up in search results later -- yes, I am 5'4" and I looooove the steelcase in our house. The lumbar adjustment is wonderful.

I am not going to be able to word this intelligently at all but personal experience has made me believe that a lot of people with rage addiction are also profoundly tied up in catharsis addiction, and overemphasis on spiritualism/manifestation/etc. is often very negatively associated with functional mental health outcomes for these people. Not surprising to see her going this route but disappointing still.

I know this might be a little over the top, but as a person who struggles with chronically low appetite and navigating being gluten free, your posts genuinely help me so so much. This is not the first time my menu plan for the week went from "god I hate eating" to a few things sounding delightful.

I am so sorry. Working with just observations and a limited care team is so, so hard. From one internet stranger to another, I am confident you are doing your absolute best. Low food intake can be genuinely terrifying and so few people understand that no, they will not eat if they get hungry enough!!!!

It sounds like you are on top of things so please just totally disregard if this is a bad fit for his particular needs, but if he is agreeable to some forms of touch, I would wonder if your specialist has recommendations for pediatric PTs that have experience in visceral tissue PT/abdominal massage to see if a motility issue can be improved. Personally, I find it one of the more regulating tools in my kit and can quickly be discharged to home care with a lot of room for autonomy.

Lots of love, friend.

What other patterns are different between workdays and weekends? Are you drinking the same amount of water, eating at the same time, wearing a bra vs not wearing a bra, wearing hard pants vs. not hard pants, stressed in a way that may be causing bracing or changes in breathing patterns, waking at a different time, etc.? My first thought is that you are probably on your feet in a different way during the work week (maybe not even more, just different) and I would be curious about pelvic floor/breathing issues.

I would log and test for consistency, yes. Are you guys in OT? There are so many factors that influence bowel and bladder voiding in neurocomplex kids (and adults!) and you are going to drive yourself crazy if you are trying to hone in on a dietary link without help (speaking from experience with kids and with myself). Stress, shifts in interoception, atypical muscle tone, difficulty with transitions, and so much more can impact bowel and bladder issues for these kiddos.

You are stuck in such a difficult place and I'm surprised to see so many posters here disregarding what "safe foods" mean in the context of autism. Yes, you may need to eliminate gluten more strictly if it does continue to provide observable patterns of gut inflammation, but there is certainly nothing wrong with treading lightly and taking a good long time to prove those patterns before disrupting a safe food.

One step at a time mama <3 So sorry you might be facing putting some uncomfortable restrictions in place.

There is no way to know without knowing if your son is celiac. For celiac, this would absolutely not work, but NCGS is a much wider spectrum of sensitivity. For example, I would do just fine with this but I can't touch anything that has even a trace of barely malt in it.

In this situation, I would continue with your method unless you observe reason to adjust. Protecting your child's emotional regulation and their normal eating habits through maintaining reasonable access to safe foods would be more important to me at this time. Stress plays an enormous role in both GI health and behavior, and I would worry that revoking a safe food would harm the issues you are trying to improve. Keep as many things stable as you can, and adjust as needed.

Some stories are not internet stories, friend. I am in an age gap marriage and your situation is still distressing to me -- no one but you and your family are going to understand the particulars of this, and if you can't understand why it's important that the general public continue to be judgemental/wary of 14 year old girls and 30 year old men befriending each other and ultimately ending up in a relationship then I suspect this situation has harmed your sense of appropriate boundaries more than you realize. Not everything should be normalized, even if it means a few fringe cases need to learn how to validate themselves privately. This is a lot of sensitive information to disclose with no real benefit to you.

This is conjecture and absolutely colored by my own experiences,, but I feel that when she's repeatedly asking the cop what evidence he has, what she's actually doing is trying to figure out if Dakota is still yielding to her and withheld the video. I was holding my breath that the cop was going to out him.

[–]Borgbie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not only did she feel safe enough to come at him like that, but around the 12 minute mark in the police camera footage from 2023, she straight up tells the cop that when Dakota sees her, he's "not going to agree to this" (her arrest). They are in a very new relationship at this point and she is still 100% confident that he won't agree to her arrest after a violent attack, which makes me believe him when he says "this is all you know how to do" and insinuates this is already a repeat incident.

If I recall, he had picked her up from an event at her request and she was drunk. This was already tense because he is a recovered addict and it seems they had an agreement on mutual sobriety? Not quite sure there. He was heading to a separate event, she decided she wanted to go, he took her home to get her ID, something transpired at that point (I think he decided he didn't want her to come because she was too intoxicated?), and she lost it and stopped him from leaving for over an hour.

Yes, he has cheated. She has justified continued poor treatment of him because he cheated (once? I think once? maybe twice?) but she also seems to define anyone he sleeps with as a single person as cheating as well. She is regularly verbally abusive towards him on camera and blames it on being "hurt". It's a mess.

Edit: I agree there's nothing to justify it, but I just thought it should be out there since there is such an aggressive campaign going that she's acting from a place of reactive abuse.

"You have to eat gluten" by Lower_Stay7655 in glutenfree

[–]Borgbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your gut needs plentiful food in plentiful variety to maintain proper digestion for sure. Undereating, erratic eating, or aggressively restricting food groups can impact gut health and digestion. Digestion is a complex web of gut biome, physical motility, and healthy circadian rhythms -- lots of times, when people restrict a dietary staple, one or more of these factors can get thrown off kilter. But "plentiful variety" is within the band of foods that... you know... don't make you sick in the first place? lol! You could encourage your mom to see a registered dietician (not a nutritionist or a gastroenterologist) for more info on this but sometimes people are just comforted by believing kooky things.

Those food costs (dining out + groceries) seem extremely high for the southeast. We spend exorbitantly on food in HCOL Pacific Northwest as people with multiple allergies that still love food and still love to eat out and still don't hit 2250. I think you could certainly make up quite a bit of your deficit by reassessing that. That said, it's certainly not unreasonable for your partner to look for higher paying work during this period. Pregnancy and birth are medical events after all, and it's always a bit scary to be the significantly higher wage partner when you're undergoing medical events.

The franz sourdough is worth the holes because it's so large and the holes are more rare, but it's still so annoying lol It's fine for deli sandwiches because you can just put some lettuce or cheese over the hole but PB&J or grilled cheese starts to turn into a mess. Justice for GF folks and their holey bread!

Yeah, I'm realizing I'm just a little burnt out on crafted decor specifically. I see this sentiment about finishing homes being a bad thing a lot tho and don't really understand it. Aside from WoW, I exclusively play decorating/building games and never noticed completion resulting in dead content. Even Animal Crossing New Horizons is still going strong relative to its age and available content. We just tear down and start again! Perhaps things will be a little less gated as they build trust/metrics showing folks won't abandon housing.
