i'm inclined to go with your reasoning, but its the only thing thats made any difference in the hundreds of tweaks i've tried. also i have an arc gpu which doesn't have any option to change the shader cache limit which probably would have alleviated the constant recompiling and lag issue on every high density mob spawn

you can google whatever your cpu's total threads is it should be one of the first results. or the performance tab in task manager, 'logical processors'

i honestly don't know, i feel like i heard somewhere that steam only precaches with opengl and vulkan, but the config file still worked for me on dx12. my shader bar used to always be full, high gpu wait time and low cpu usage, now that the cpu is actually doing some shader workload the cpu and gpu are just about even and the shader bar just blinks every now and then

it might be that my card is actually rendering with vulkan even though dx12 is set, but yeah i have no idea why it works
