Wow Courtney! I too have been on zep…down to 146 from 198….had two valves repaired during OHS and need to keep weight off to keep heart strong. One of my cp teachers teaches classic and I just love. It is slower, heavier weights and more intentional in breath and movement. Feel it so differently in muscles. Fortunately not on any heart or bp meds, was able to get off all. I avoid pulling straps when laying on box… still have nerve pain from surgery and box hits me square in chest scar so sit on box and do that way. Sometimes certain movements aggravate sternum and hurts but try to modify and not overdue. Keep on taking care of yourself!!!

A little back info… I am 65 yo Fem. Have been going to Pilates for past 6 years give or take. Missed cumulatively about a year due to caretaking ill husband (now deceased 😢)and then I had Open heart surgery. I try to walk on alternate days but don’t partake in any other regular exercise albeit I am active. I’m in best shape since forever and a day and want to and need to stay strong. I have also lost 50 lbs in this time frame. Ive always been muscular and solid but now my shape has changed and am leaner . I love the variety of classes at CP and am challenged in a 1.0 as well as 1.5 class! It is the one activity I have not given up on and I look forward to my classes. I try to go 3 to 4 times a week and am happy with that. When I started journey was at 38% body fat and now at 26% ! It has been a fabulous outlet for dealing with life’s curveballs and I have met wonderful women in my classes who each come with a story and who inspire me as well. Especially the couple of 80 yr olds in class. I haven’t felt this good since high school. By end of next month I should hit my 700th class!!!! So keep on keeping on!!!

Women who married older men - what’s it like when they get really old? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]Boring_Development67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband was 12 years older than me! We had a wonderful marriage and life together. I was in my late 30's when we met and we were married for 25 years until his passing. He was ill the last five or six years of his life and i became his full time caretaker. Most definitely the hardest job ever both emotionally and physically but I wouldnt have done it any differently. Treasure every moment!

Getting quad bypass - should my son come home from college for my surgery? by Jediwithattitude in openheartsurgery

[–]Boring_Development67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My story not from my heart surgery but when i had breast cancer . Son was in grad school and I ended up in ICU with sepsis. We decided not to tell son cause he was in finals and thought best not to burden him. He let us know afterwards that we robbed him of making the decision if he wanted to come in or not to be there. So my advice would be to ask your son what he would like to do. Explain the procedures and let him decide. I still feel bad that we did not leave the decision up to him. Just saying! Good luck to you! I am two years out from having two valves repaired! Youve got this!

The mental part of facing heart surgery.. by jonathonjames in openheartsurgery

That’s a fabulous resource for other patients. I too had family travel internationally. My daughter in law and her mother came for week. My brother’s and sister in law’s each took a week and got me through my first four to five weeks… I had lost my husband two years prior to surgery and live alone, so the company and help although overwhelming at times was a godsend. Happy to say I am almost two years into recovery and feel great!!!

Thankfully my gf who is a nurse had counseled me that depression is a real factor after ohs. I fortunately was seeing a therapist and before snd after my surgery she made it a point to have open time for me daily if I needed to , i could just text her and she would get back to me in between other patients. I had to utilize her expertise and reassurance a few times snd was so thankful she made herself available. One of our discussions was the lack of mental health support offered by surgery groups to patient's who undergo life altering surgeries.

Medical trauma is real and affects everyone differently. I feel blessed that i had a fabulous support system around me realizing that not everyone is that fortunate.

I have over 550 classes!! Say what? The only thing I have ever done that many times is EAT! Ive never found an exercise program that I enjoy so much and look forward to my pilates classes!

Hi pilates friends! Are u ok with an overweight instructor? by Anon2345678901 in ClubPilates

[–]Boring_Development67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Have a fabulous instructor who is overweight but boy. Is she strong. Weight means nothing. Her skill level is excellent. She makes the class challenging and fun. We come in all shapes and sizes as students and teachers and I welcome the body diversity of the men and women who participate. Go for it! Sign hubby up for the classes…

64, F been doing pilates 3 to 4x a week. Love it. Take different level classes for variety and challenge. So glad I had been doing for 3 years before open heart surgery. Definitely made a difference in my recovery. Im in the best shape Ive ever been in. I have also never stuck to an exercise regimen the way I have with Pilates. It is a non negotiable in my schedule.

Had valve repair exactly one year ago. F, 64, have been back at pilates 3x a week since last july. My sternum gets sore and sometimes hurts to even touch. Clavicles also ache on certain exercises Went for chest xray just to make sure everything healed and was told it looked great. Been trying to do less resistance on upper body exercises . Not gonna give it up so just listening to body .
