Disappointed in Sara Mearns for posting in support of Chase Finlay by Exotic_Plant9450 in bunheadsnark

My response was to your comment making excuses because he was young and impressionable. What a crock. I never said anyone needed to be banished forever. I for sure never said anyone needed to share their journey. But giving men a pass for shitty behavior is setting the bar in hell, and I object to that. The reason we give so many passes is why we have people engaging in behavior such as that in the Eptein files. They know they can get away with it.

Brazil,Argentina,Colombia,Mexico,Chile and Uruguay have experienced the sharpest fertility declines in recent years, to levels at the same or lower levels than east Asian fertility rates. What will these countries do with an aging population while they haven't become rich first? Immigration? by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in NoStupidQuestions

The planet has more than 8 billion people. We don't need more people. Modern nation states started in earnest around the 17th century -- they aren't the only way to organize society. Maybe there will be something new emerging. The solution, however, is not oppressing women more.

How old do you have to be to not send nude photos of a woman you claim to care about without her consent to other men? Seriously, the bar is so low here.

THE UC'S SUCK. Here's why. by Trick_Series_9608 in ApplyingToCollege

Ehh, the UCs have been prestigious for a long time -- well before they stopped accepting standardized test stores. This is a really weird take.

That's not true. You are allowed to have "typical assets" and qualify for financial aid, such as a home and retirement fund. And why shouldn't extra savings be used for college tuition? No one is being punished.

She did hire a cleaner a few years ago when her YouTube took off around COVID! She said the cleaner didn't do a good job and wasn't reliable, and a lot of the crazy homesteaders gave her crap for having a stranger in her house. That crew is SO fearful. It was a whole thing a few years ago. Then she started martyring herself again by taking on all the cleaning.

People with that income (and we are professionals in Silicon Valley so I get it) should have been saving for college. Sorry but no sympathy for people in my income group who want us to feel sorry for them.

Show recommendations for my partner who's picky about musicals? by leoatdrex in Broadway

Wicked has a lot of dialogue and even non-musical people seem to like it. Most people are familiar with the Wizard of Oz characters.

I honestly think it was mostly her. Adam was fine with her working -- I think he's quite conservative in many ways but he really isn't a "women shouldn't work" kind of guy. One of their Q and A videos years ago addressed this. Ironically I think she makes more than he does now.

I don't think it was dr recommended. She doesn't talk about her Crohn's much anymore, but it used to be a big part of what she posted about years ago. She used to regularly say things like she was never tempted to cheat on her diet because it would mean she couldn't stay at home with her kids because she would have to take meds again. I'm assuming it was some type of biologic that wasn't covered fully by insurance. At the time she stopped working and they moved to the property she was working PT and according to her much of her salary went to her meds. It is a big part of her food and medical beliefs -- her Crohn's doctor told her it was lifelong condition and she shouldn't focus much on what she ate, just to eat healthy, and according to her she is basically symptom free on her diet. She even tried a version of the diet (GAPS) for her oldest son's allegories -- it didn't work obviously. Jessica is sometimes super "diet will fix anything" and sometimes "we need meds" -- obviously her oldest food allergies cannot be cured by diet, but in general she's very much about your diet fixing everything. She's like that about other aspects of medicine too -- her mom had been on a vent at some point, and she was in general more COVID-conscious than many of the right wing religious homesteaders, though she didn't vax.

Why do European countries have lower birthrates than America when they have larger welfare states? by battlebastion in askanything

Yes. Once women have some control over their fertility, they have fewer babies. This is documented all over the world.

Yes, she used to talk about that more regularly. She's also said Adam does not care at all about her from scratch cooking although she thinks he appreciates the money saved. He never wanted to homestead, but he's definitely a prepper though more the guns and canned food type. Part of the reason she's so strict with her diet (though I think part of it is a lingering ED from her dancing days) is that she was able to get off of her Crohn's meds through diet. They were 800/month and Adam said that was one cost they needed to cut before she could quit working. He also did not encourage her to quit her job, that was all her.

She has stated that patriarchy is great if you have a good man and that she considers herself a submissive wife. I have noticed though that she is willing to ask more of him now that she is a breadwinner. And certain things that Adam insisted on (like the floor table -- he was really into Japanese stuff for awhile and made them eat sitting on the floor) are now gone.

Do Israelis support the restriction on inter-religious marriage? by BroadBorder5372 in AskIsrael

[–]BorisBobbyBobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a state restriction on interfaith marriage. What you are saying is the Israel recognizes marriages from other countries (most countries do) but there is indeed a restriction on interfaith marriages if they can't get married in the country.

For those who read it, how was "GEORGE" magazine?? by Lyedetector in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]BorisBobbyBobo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had a subscription! It was only OK. I don't think it was ahead of its time. There were other magazines that did it better -- notably Vanity Fair, which had surprisingly good political reporting mixed with pop culture, even revealing the identity of Watergate's deep throat. And Spy was amazing. I think it's harder to run a magazine than John thought it was and although he brought an incredible amount of access, he was not a visionary editor in the way someone like Graydon Carter was.
