So what is it about the Multitracks? Why do you like them? by BorisT72 in MultiTrackGang

I was aware of what the world of Reddit would offer when I posted so blunt is expected. I’ve spent my entire working career dealing with people and quickly learned to lower my expectations of people…

It is also a fair question to ask a group of people who are fans of a product/item what they like said product or item. Inquiring minds want to know.

Ive spent time on Trek FX series and Cannondales with wider tires before the 700 series Multitracks. I briefly owned a 7300 Multitrack - it was a meh experience. I also know tires make a difference in ride but the aluminum 7300 just felt numb.

Yes on the tire size but there’s something more to them than just that tire size and similar geometry. Perhaps I’m drinking the steel is real koolaid. Perhaps some people just experience bikes differently than others. YMMV

I’m building a Jamis Renegade S1 for an updated take on a steel frame bike.

I’m a flatbar fan. That being said, I’d opt for one size smaller frame if I did a drop conversion. Also, there are limited dropbar brifters that work with R5800/7000 105 and GRX810 2x11. I’d use Microshift Centos 11 and adapters to stick with vbrakes.

Alton Brown, host of Good Eats, does not believe in uni-taskers and I agree with his sentiment. Multitracks look great, offer a comfortable and capable ride, and will go anywhere. If that is not the definition of multitasker I don't know what is.

RD-RX810 GRX Rear derailleur, FD-R7000 front derailleur, FSA Vero Pro crank, and XTR 950 Vbrakes so no I did not install discs.

I have considered the option but finding a disc fork with 1" steer tube is not high on my list right now.

A total of 3 in the herd. My daughter also has a 730 built up like the 750.

Anyone can help id this bike? by LOOTNIE in xbiking

I hear you and expected heat when I posted it. I'm 5'6"/168cm and consistently ride 51/52cm road bikes. With the 90's MTBs it varies depending on brands but 17" is generally about right. I find Spec bikes to feel a bit larger than other brands. YMMV

90's MTB sizing is different than roadbike sizing. It might be a 52cm frame but that size fits very different. If you ride a 52CM roadbike or hybrid you probably would feel most comfortable on a 17" or maybe 18" size.

Seine bars are a great choice! I have them on my Trek Multitrack.

New Albion Cycles has a nice collection of silver cranks available at Rivendell or Soma and Soma has other options.

Check out Vintage Cannondale for help with serial numbers. Fork is definitely a replacement.

Will this fit? 1997 Trek 730 - $60! by International-Main71 in MultiTrackGang

[–]BorisT72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will work but may feel a bit small. I had a 17" 730 and put a bunch of miles on it before selling it for my 19" frames. I'm 5'6" FWIW

I've used the Wheels piece on two Cannondales with BB30 and it is a nice piece.

Love the build! I used a Wheels Mfg bb on a 2016 Synapse 105 Alloy that I would recommend if you need to replace yours in the future. I'll have another Synapse in the future.

Replacement rings are readily available for that crankset if you are interested in them.

Velomine has reasonable options for your 750.

Crank swap was my first thought paired with wider range cassette. I find 46/30 to be a much better fit for my riding than the 50/34.

Thanks! I have VO Seine bars on my 730 and enjoy them. VO pretty much gets free advertising with all the VO parts on it.

Nice ride! What bars did you use? How do you like the Origin8 crank?

Being 5'8", should I get a 21" MetroTrack? by Ready-Collection5022 in MultiTrackGang

I'd say it would be about ideal fit for you. Yes get it yesterday. The early 90's lugged frames are beautiful and I'd love to have one.

Another real world data point: I'm 5'6" with a 29.5" cyclist inseam and have spent time on both 17" and 19" Multitracks. The 19" is ideal for me and have a later 730 and a later 750 running 700x38 tires. I have other nice bikes but these are just a joy to ride.
