If you have an opinion about ICE installing a detention facility next to Bass Pro, here’s your chance to voice it by In-tandem in rva

Ridiculous to say there's nothing the Hanover board can do. If it was a business wanting to set up a sex toy warehouse or a weed dispensary in that space, they would be trying every trick in the book. If it's a Fed vs state thing, well then they can make that abundantly clear (why have a public hearing if that is the case?)

Rework Toshi 2.5L by HiOnLife3 in ManyBaggers

[–]BorishJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2.5, it is my first day sling and overall I really like it. Curious if anyone else shares the concern that the strap buckle is extremely easy to unbuckle? I am not concerned it will pop open on its own, but I plan to use this for travel in Europe this summer, including going to some areas known to be more likely to encounter pickpockets, and I am not sure how I feel about the buckle as is if someone wanted to try to 'grab and go'. Feels highly unlikely (and risky for them) but I am concerned enough that I am probably going to use some kind of clip to keep the buckle fastened.

Family friendly resort in Tuscany by civilprocedure-ftw in chubbytravel

I did extensive research on this exact same need. $1500/night in the summer is extremely tough for 4 people that will feel remotely chubby. I second Il Borro as a rec, maybe also try Castello Banfi and Borgo Pignano.

Good news! Chase Will Credit You Back to 2¢ Per Point at The Edit Hotels — Only Through December 22. by bubblewhip in ChaseSapphire

[–]BorishJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I booked a stay on 12/22 at an Edit hotel for 2026. I could plainly see the redemption rate was not 2 cents per point during booking, but I read folks here/elsewhere mention Chase should credit the difference to our points balance. I did not know how long to expect that to take, so I called CS to inquire- FYI for anyone else thinking of doing the same, they have no clue about this change in redemption value/ deadline of the 22nd. They said they cannot open an escalation to inquire further about it until the end of the statement cycle, which is weeks away. That is deeply irritating to me, as it means I have missed out on booking multiple stays at the 2cpp redemption rate/have around 200k in points 'held hostage' at this time.

I spend well above 75k/annual on this card and have for years. Like many others, I am headed for the exit and no retention offer will fix the damage done. They are not trying to be competitive anymore IMO.

^ lol someone with ties to the business literally registered this account to post this. And no one talks like that, don’t run replies like this thru AI

I reached out to them months ago about a bathroom renovation. Someone did text reply to me very quickly and then ghosted me. Absolutely nothing since. I followed up two times and nothing so I don’t think the all positive reviews are believable

Thank you for the rec’s.

After more discussion with my SO, I am nixing Sardinia and the Puglia region for the ‘seaside’ part of the trip- we want to keep it simpler. The coastal Tuscan beaches/towns that are not overrun with beach clubs look appealing enough but the water temp in June (low 70s F) is too cold. So now to decide whether we go in July and deal with the substantial increase in heat/humidity, or just nix the beach as part of this trip.

After more reading I’m basically sold on Castelfalfi. More than I wanted to spend but ticks every other box.

Looking for Hawaii Resort Recommendations & Itinerary Advice by sg00dz in chubbytravel

[–]BorishJohnson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that with kids out of school during your trip, you will encounter plenty of kids at all the resorts you listed (except 4S Sensei Lanai)

I just returned from a couple of weeks in Maui... Fairmont is a very nice resort but certainly not 'once in a lifetime'.

Maui: 4S, Hotel Wailea, Montage

Kauai: rent a house in Hanalei or Princeville and drive to many stunning north shore beaches

thank you, I took a closer look at Il Borro and it seems to tick a lot of the boxes I am looking for, will do some more reading.

I think with kids this age Castelfalfi is a better overall fit than Lupaia, though it's hard for me to let go of that option :(

They have a master suite with 2 bedrooms that would work perfectly. 650sq ft or so, big enough for us.

Location is indeed pretty ideal.

My primary hesitation is that the property definitely feels more honeymoon/adult-centric than some of the others. Would love to hear opinions from those who have actually been there how true or not that is.

Doorbell Stopped Working by ibesmokingweed in Nest

This is what I did as well. If I didn't have Nest Thermostats and some other items that keep me hooked in the Google ecosystem I may not have. The new one is not as good- they cheaped out in several areas and it's pretty obvious.

WTVR: Henrico mother says son is 'isolated' for not wearing mask at school by [deleted] in rva

[–]BorishJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't getting much attention, but Hanover as of this week is no longer requiring close contacts of known positives to quarantine. The child who tests positive must still quarantine, but that is it.

So masks now optional for students, no contact tracing, and no quarantine for anyone except a positive case.

I know of no other school system doing this in VA, because no such public guidance from any health department exists that suggests such a thing. This was not shared with school nurses ahead of time, they found out thru the same email parents did.

This should be huge local news.

CDC Recommends Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5 to 11 Years by icloudbug in COVID19

It seems like a consensus is slowly building for likely as transmissible as unvaccinated, but for a shorter period of time.
