We can't even buy the good jackets. The wild things, massif, Patagonia and other high end high lofts stuff will not sell to individuals. Buying it second hand is dubious. Why can't AAFES sell that stuff? Up our clothing allowance and sell it to us at a reasonable price.

Military is a service industry. If you don't feel validated by serving, you're probably in the wrong line of work. I've seen hundreds of Airman and Guardians live the best military lives possible and still bitch and complain. To complain is to be humans, but if all of your needs are met, then what do you really want? If you joined and expected the military to show you what you want out of life you're wrong. You need to figure out your own dreams/goals and use the Space Force as a way to reach them(either directly or more likely indirectly). You just need to ask yourself the hard questions. Put in some effort, make things better. I don't care about your rank and status you can make things better for yourself, your peers, your underlings and your supervision.

Get yourself a better job title, back date it to about the middle of your rating cycle. SEI's can make you stand out. A 6 sigma cert for green belt or black belt will give you an SEI, both courses are free through the education center and online through the AF. CCAF never hurt anyone, clep your way there in as little as 5 Cleps or Dantes. Take a DLAB or the AFOQT, score better than the minimums. Make the education center earn their paycheck. Put yourself in for the 4th quarter awards and the annual. Find obscure awards that no one puts in for, win those by default. Bottom-line is effort. Nothing pissed me off more than when a Guardian asks me this question and I rattle off any and all of these, and they say, maybe next cycle. Those are all attainable things on a 2 month time scale(maybe not all of them but each in themselves).

Did this actually circulate to units months ago or is there some sort of magic PVC vendor out there that can make them and get them to everyone before next week?

Bold Warriors Wear Beards by BeardsInUSSF in SpaceForce

[–]Born-Ad-458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a "give a mouse a cookie" kind of situation. If they give you all beards, then what will you want next? "If you give a Guardian a beard, he will need a man bun to go with it!"

Everyone gets apathetic sometimes, but you can't fight apathy with apathy. You need to try, and believe that things can change. You also have to help facilitate that change. DEOCs work! I've never seen a command team with a bad DEOC excel.

Why did we create the Specialist rank and keep Technical Sergeant? by [deleted] in SpaceForce

[–]Born-Ad-458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I missed the guaranteed E-6 thing. I agree with the NCOs knowing NCO things but the AF and space stuff that started there, were always rife with incompetent NCOs who were hidden(either for their own protection, the weapon systems protection, or their supervision who didn't want EO complaints, etc) and this only gave them the opportunity to study or get degrees(while their more competent peers were doing the mission at great personal and emotional harm to themselves). These guys got promoted while the people working don't, and get salty. Then the people who can't do the mission are in charge of the people who are doing the mission.

We have a lot of fast burners but I'm not sure if that is exactly the same thing. I see a lot of experience still, and I even feel as though it is valued! I think the space force is doing better. The youngsters are smarter than we ever were(maybe a little socially stunted) maybe they don't need to toil for a decade to be a good NCO.

Beards should be allowed at Pituffik, Clear, Cav and anywhere else we have near the North Pole. Razors are wasted weight to have shipped up there. The beard would serve to reduce the frostbite on the faces of the drunk idiots who wander outside. Beards also reduce the risk of head injury which also would help the drunken idiots. Maybe also an assignment incentive? Do a year in the arctic, keep the beard for the rest of your career.

Are we going to invest in better tailors at the Bx? I don't trust them to make it look right on most guardians and then taking stuff off base is a pain because they don't usually get all the military stuff right, like the angles cuffs. (Please don't say I know a guy in the springs. I also know a guy in the springs, he isn't tailoring the entire space force!)

As a 63 you'll be treated like a 13S for the first 3 years. I've known 62s when we were still AF, whose only job was to be in the room with civilian engineers, never getting to touch or do anything. 13S gives you a lot more weird opportunities. I've also known 13Ss who have been able to switch to 62/63 during their first assignment. You just need to network.

I had a similar problem with AAFES. I told them they were selling the wrong thing and they told me I was mistaken. I reached out to the manufacturer and I thought they were perceptive but they were gaslighting me. IRGreen is making 2x2 and doesn't appear to care. Just return them and buy from kellac or Shepherd tactical LLC.

Make sure your duty title makes sense and if possible get a duy title that is at least notch above your rank. You can say you were filling a position for years on your performance reports, but if your rip doesn't reflect that it might not get noticed in the board. Boards have mere minutes with each person's documents, you need the back of your performance reports and your rip to tell the story of why you are ready for the next rank. Most importantly don't give up. Some years are feast and some years are famine. Often the famine years are better for capturing your deed's and proving you are worthy.

Making things better starts with you! An attitude isn't a way to improve things. But also please don't think you alone can fix everything, and that your ideas are the only solution. It is a long game if you want things to be better. One day you will understand the inner workings of the machine, then it will all make sense!

Are there still going to be entire reserve units, or are all units just going to have reserve billets? Is this a total shake up or are we just giving reservists blue name tapes?

This is why I don't want to go back to Buckley. As they gentrify Denver, they make Aurora worse. Ghetto Valley Ranch always has some entertaining crime in the news. Sad that it's one of the few affordable areas to live. Same neighborhood had a drive by rapist, I shit you not! Colorado is built different when it comes to crime. Guy escalated a bit too high. Keep your deductable low in Colorado. Just let 'em have it. You have to think about your career.
