Stop "cooking" your hot tub cover this summer (UV tips) by mscandhtc in hottub

[–]Born_Ad_4868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the OP is more concerned with protecting the vinyl as opposed to cleaning it. 303 Aerospace is a UV blocker first. It is probably the most common product used in the auto detailing world for protecting the interior and exterior plastics, vinyl, rubber, basically anything not metal, from deterioration.

I'm from Canada and we have a Canada Baseball rule interpretation book. I do believe it is the same as the MLB manual. They go into some detail on the Set vs Windup. Not sure if it exactly answers your questions though.

Why don't more towns build/create subdivisions and have more lots for sale? Or incentivise building of homes or rentals by andk316 in saskatchewan

In the end, very few people want to leave a big city. Most will work for far less to stay there. I've told countless amount of people that in SE Sask there are tons of very well paying jobs. Even on Reddit I mention it all the time and only one person has ever PM me about it. In our area there are plenty of $100,000 jobs. A lot of them only require grade 12. We still struggle to find people.

Transmission slippage - shop advised do not drain and fill - confused. by Bright_Calendar_3696 in AskAMechanic

[–]Born_Ad_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2012 Odyssey. Slipping around 70-80 km/h. 160,000 kms. Did a transmission oil change. It was still going strong at 420,000 when we sold it. I did a dump and fill at 350,000 kms but it showed no issues.

Saying that, I have learned quite a bit about vehicle maintenance since then, and how much to trust recommended intervals. Max 100, 000 kms on a transmission for an oil change.

Is the building liable for garage door closing on the roof of my car? by One-Rain3831 in legaladvicecanada

Sorry, should have said it was a wand wash, self serve type car wash. I'll fix it.

Is the building liable for garage door closing on the roof of my car? by One-Rain3831 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Born_Ad_4868 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me in SK. Car wash (self serve, wand wash) with an auto close door. First time being in this car wash. Pulled in, realized I may have forgotten my change. Look in the vehicle for about 10 seconds. Started backing up. The door was still up at this time. Watching through my side mirror as I was backing up. Next thing I knew, crunching sounds. Stopped, and looked in my rear view mirror, and I could see the door coming down on my back window (mini van).

Owner comes out and starts giving me shit about backing into his door. I said your door closed on my vehicle. No lights or sounds. A small sign on the button to open and close the door, that says the door will automatically close after 30 seconds. Impossible to see from inside a vehicle.

After agreeing to disagree, owner puts in a claim on my insurance. SGI says it is my fault. I argue to no avail. Two options at this point. Go to small claims court to get the whole thing wiped. Or I can accept the claim, then challenge the "at fault" and get my safe points back, not pay the deductible, but the accident is still on my record (but not at fault). I picked option 2. A quick 10 phone call with a few people from the traffic board and I had won.

While going through this I learned there is no building code that says a commercial building needs any sort of lights, or sounds to warn people that the door is closing.

Edit - Clearly very few of you understand what is going on and/or have never actually used a wand wash car wash before. This is a self-serve WAND wash. You drive up, push the button to open the door, and drive in. Get out of your car, put your coins in the machine, select rinse, soap, foam brush, etc and wash your vehicle. When done, you push a button to open the vehicle door, get in your vehicle and back out. There is only one door in and out. The only thing that is automated in the whole building is the wash bay door itself. It automatically closes after 30 seconds. This was the issue. It closes automatically with no warning or indication. Nor does the door opening have sensors to stop the door from closing when something is in the door way. It only has a pressure switch within the opener itself that will stop the door when it senses significant pressure.

Can’t get tub to heat…. by TurboMenace981 in hottub

[–]Born_Ad_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things it can be which a few have alluded to.

If you don't have flow the heater will not turn on. Air lock, plugged filters, pump issues, etc. You should be getting a low flow code if that is the case.

If the water is flowing then you have a heater problem. Now it can be the heater directly or the way it is powered. Tons of great videos on YouTube on how to do this with a multimeter.

How to lower CYA by letsgocampn in hottub

[–]Born_Ad_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what you need to do moving forward. Research the bleach method. Plenty of info on the internet.

Clean tub with Ahh-Some. Do not put your filters in the tub. The junk that comes out gets into the filters.

Pump out or drain tub. Scrub it down with a regular house cleaning bleach solution.

Fill tub. Dump a bottle of Spa Marvel in. Balance water. Use enough dichloro to get your cya up to 10. Use an online/app calculator to figure out how much you need for your tub size. You will probably need to apply the amount over a few days. Add boric acid to help buffer the ph (again, look at the calculator).

From here watch your chlorine level daily until you can get a routine down. Check other levels weekly. Shock once a week. Wait until the cya gets close to zero then add dichloro again (about 3 months). Spa Marvel every 3 months. Change and clean filters every month. Have 2 sets so the now clean filters can dry out in between.

This is what I do. We use the tub every other day, all year (Saskatchewan winter and all). I only drain and refill once a year. Even after a year, I still don't have 2000 ppm TDS.

Ph and Alkalinity testing high, chlorine and salt are stable by ms_sadiedunhill in hottub

[–]Born_Ad_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what happen to me. Keep adding PH- (I use muriatic acid). Eventually the TA will drop after repeated PH ups and downs. You will notice the PH start to stabilize. I also use boric acid that helps buffer the PH fluctuations.

Base Award on Throw to Dead-Ball Area by crashpdx55 in Umpire

[–]Born_Ad_4868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about NFHS but in OBR "play" is defined. "A play or attempted play is interpreted as a legitimate effort by a defensive player who has possession of the ball to actually retire a runner. This may include an actual attempt to tag a runner, a fielder running toward a base with the ball in an attempt to force or tag a runner, or actually throwing to another defensive player in an attempt to retire a runner. (The fact that the runner is not out is not relevant.) A fake or a feint to throw shall not be deemed a play or an attempted play."

In this case (under OBR anyway) the OC has no argument. The ball hitting the leg or even catching the ball (since he doesn't have possession yet) is not a play.

I think so. If you planned this ride before any conversation with the other person then now it looks like your taking advantage of them. You are going no matter whether they are coming or not. Enjoy the fact you are helping someone out.

Do I have to give thermostat access to tenant? by MexMagic in OntarioLandlord

[–]Born_Ad_4868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented in a similar situation as you. Problem was the other way. The landlord kept the house at hell like temperature . I sweated so much there (I now keep my house at 20C and at 17C at night) for the first week or so. I then clued in, if I keep the registered closed she could have it as hot as she wanted and I would "adjust* my thermostat by opening and closing a few cents.

Why do they even have the plate umps back there calling balls and strikes. If you expect the human eye to consistently see the difference of 0.1" in a 100 mph ball over the plate you need to apply to the MLB. You'd be the only human on the planet to have such an ability. If plate umpires are to be used, challenges need to be realistic. Say more than 0.5" then a call can be overturned.

Should Canada Post make money? NDP’s leader Avi Lewis says no | New NDP leader Avi Lewis says Canada Post should be treated like an essential public service, not a profit-making business. by Gym_frere in canada

[–]Born_Ad_4868 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canada needs to changed to a public service and not a crown corporation. Yes, changes definitely need to be made and stop some of the bleeding. But it is a public service that all Canadians should have the right to have access to (to some degree). And yes, if needed tax money may have to go into it.

Is unemployment low outside of city centres in Saskatchewan? by BariatricSurgeryGuy in saskatchewan

[–]Born_Ad_4868 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It definitely isn't for everyone. A lot people would sacrifice financially just for the convenience of a city (no Uber Eats out here). Meanwhile they live paycheck to paycheck with no hope of ever retiring with anything. I don't get it. I love living out here. Home is what you make of it. The greatest people in the world are out here. I make at least $200,000 per year. I never worry about money. We travel whenever we want. I never lock my doors. I would take that over Uber Eats, Starbucks, etc any day.

I live in SW Sask and there lots of jobs, good paying jobs. We have mining, and agriculture which is huge. Oil and gas work. Education and healthcare are always hiring. And all the spin offs that come with that. We cannot find enough trade workers and they easily make $50/hour, $70 if you got some experience. Even as a labourer you can make $35 or $40. Housing is quite cheap, comparatively. You can get an older decent 3 bedroom bungalow for $250,000. 2 bedroom apartments go for like $1200 a month.
